Skinny 33s

I'm in need of a new set of tires, and debating going to the skinnier 33s, mostly for weight saving.
For example the BFG KM2s are 48 lb vs 58 for the 33x12.50 version - it's not much but on a 4cyl Yota used for racing it adds up!

My question is - what brands/varaieties of "skinny" 33s are available, particularly for tough/good traction tires? I'm not finding much.
Currently have 15" rims but they are 8" so I'd prob have to replace them anyway, so other rim sizes possible too.

There was an off-brand 33x9.5 that some of the local guys were running on Sammis. It was fairly aggressive, and pretty cheap. Can't remember the name, though. My biggest concern with this being a race vehicle, though, is cornering. The taller and skinnier the tire, the easier it's going to fold in a corner. You might be better served by a lighter, wider wheel to stiffen up the sidewall a little.

id run ltb's on a 10in wheel but they are 34 1050 just a thought very strong tire
LTBs are good tires for traction, but defeat the OP's intent of lowering weight. They are heavy tires for their size.

I think the Jeepspeed guys run 33x10.5 BFG Baja Terrains. On the east coast, we would want the AT or MT (I run MTx12.5) I was looking for 33x10.5 MTs when I first got into ECORS, but in the used market, they arent as plentiful as the 12.5. If I happened upon a set of used/good tread 33x10.5 BFG MT,s I might snag them up...if they werent on factory Jeep wheels. The factory Jeep wheel has a deep backspace, so spacers might be needed, killing the budget.

It appears that a 33x12.50x15 Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac weighs in at 48lbs, while the MT/R of the same size weighs in at 60lbs....

And the Yokohoma M/T 33x12.5 only weighs in at 51lbs.

Not skinny, but are on the lighter side.

I ran a 33x9.50 BFG AT as a street tire on my first jeep. I would worry about your rolling a tire off the wheel depending on air pressure, though with a narrow tire you may not need to go down as much.

I would also adjust your back spacing to get the overall track width back out there. Otherwise it does have a noticeable difference.

1 - I really need to stay 33 or p-metric close equivolent... that one is what I'd really like... but even though the 34 really comes in at 33", as I understand the ECORS rules, it has to be stated at 33 by the mfr.
2 - worried that 9.5 is just too narrow, and I'd rather not run shorter if possible.

My concern as well, plus general stability. I may add either spacers or rims with more shallow backspacing to keep the stance wider, I'll have to replace them anyway.

The thing is, those are lighter for a reason- fewer/thinner plys... don't need to be tearing sidewalls either. Had that problem last year.

The KM2 33x10.5 is probably the best balance but pricy and hard to get. If I had cash to blow I'd just run the Baja MTZs and call it a day...

interco is now making the 7.00 r 15 and 7.50 r 16 ---32.5 tall and 33.5 tall and 7 and 7.5 inches wide and great traction lugs. Check out their web site

interco.

700 shows 29 lbs
7.50 shows 42 lbs

I would suggest the 34x9.5-15 TSLs but you have all ready put them as not an option. And they measure 33.8", so they would be a bit bigger than 33". Besides Interco's selection and the BFG KM2 33x10.50 there aren't a lot of aggressive narrow 33" tires.

in what style? I don't see anything this skinny.

I mean wow 7" is really skinny. You have to have like, what a 6" or thinner rim for that? I'd think stability would be a real problem.

Ah, good to know.
Unf. it looks like those are only in "small" sizes, 31.6" might be OK but would require new 16" rims.
