My son Josh bought a slide in camper. It's a slide in with a pop up roof. When we went to get it, we discovered it had a leak in the front where it hangs over the cab of the truck. Bought it anyway thinking it would be a simple fix. Turns out, it is more than we thought, but got this far so gonna go ahead and fix it. The things are put together with staples(thousands of them) and screws, of the square bit variety like you find in furniture. and many gallons of caulk, and glue.

Here it what we found.

The top is constructed of a wood frame around the outside, and one piece of 1 1/2 down the middle front to back.
Then it has a 5" wide 1/2" thick face all the way around. Styrofoam in all the middle.
I appears that at one time someone may have tried to carry something on the top in the front, and broke it down causing it to leak. Then seeing that wasn't good, they added some carry bars across it, maybe to haul a canoe or something. The roof defiantly was not designed to carry weight, so thus come it's demise.
A work in progress!

Chip - Sorry the camper sucks. If you want, I'll come pick it up and give you your kids $200 back. I'll part it for what I can and scrap the rest. Let me know.

Yea , for the price, you can't go wrong with a few hours of fix it up. Still in the "great buy" catagory.

Nah, this ain't going anywhere except on the back of his truck. A lot more damage that what we thought, but it's all rebuildable. And, it will be better and stronger!
Gonna replace the plywood that the bed rests on too, it's more dry rot. But they did have enough for sight to add some vents on the bottom. There appears to be no damage to the bottom part.

did you sell it to him? if so, kudos for this post.

I also found respect in that.

HE is most definitely a stand up guy. Made that offer when we went to get it. No ill feelings here at all. And if you want a great lil buggy, you ought to see his zuki he has for sale. Will make someone very happy

Thanks Chip! I don't think I would have sold it if I knew it was that bad of shape. Or at least I wouldn't have let you come this far to look at it.

The way I look at it, is like any thing else you buy used. No way of knowing what you have until you have had it for a while. No way to know unless you have been into one of these things how they are constructed or how the damage will look once inside. We didn't know until we started taking it apart. But with some help, several hours, and a couple hundred bucks, I think we can make it into something that will last a long time.

Most of the top is rebuilt. Pics when it's all finished.
Also today was setting it up again to work on and door fell off, well, almost off, had to replace wood in it also. It shuts, tight, but it shuts.
More to come
Trying to get it ready for a trip to Harlan!

Sorry I never did post finished pics. It was sold to nastdog, then he sold it to loganstoy I think and from there, I have no clue

like chip said it has changed hands several times. but now has landed in the hands of a jeep hoarder. everyone has added a lil to it each time . i did know who did what. lol.
i can get you some pics . i will try to post some on this thread later. but it definitely has came along way from the start. I have only used it twice. but it is a nice camper now. its hard to believe it was ever in that cond.

I'm taking pics of mine and I'll start a build thread. Hopefully it goes faster than my Shaniqua build!
