I was needing the info on a small white truck like ATV that I saw running around the farm. It had an enclosed cab and lights all around, looked allmost street legal. I need the info for work the city is thinking of buying something for the meter readers.

Thanks for the Help.

could be quite a few manufacturers...maybe a CushMan(sp?)

I don't believe they are. I think it would be cool to have, but for they moneys, a yota would be more useful. Actually those things cost more than i paid for my CTD. No thanks. I do think they could be good for city workers to tool around in like the original poster was saying.

if you can get a yard cart street legal, whats holding these up?

Can you get a yard cart street legal?? What exactly do you mean by yard cart? never heard that. I think it would be easier to get something titled as homebuilt than to try to get something like that titled as what it is.

eh, yard cart was an exageration. those buggy things they sell at gander Mtn are "legalizable". as long as you have a bill of sale and they have the required parts like proper lighting and signals, DOT tires a horn and wipers, you can get them street legal.

thats why i was wondering what keeps the hijets off the road?

The link is like the one I saw, and no at this time they are not street legal for the public. There is however a law that lets citys use them on the road for work in a 35 MPH zone or slower. We are looking for something better on gas for our water meter readers. Just got back from High Point looking at the GEM car Electric car. My Boss liked it but with only being limited to 25 MPH and no required crash testing I think it would be a death trap even in a 35 MPH zone. Now I think he is liking a Cub Cudet side by side. We priced one at bass pro and with all the extra's needed it was over 15g.
Thanks for all the help, these would be purfect but I think the fact that we can only get used ones and the lack of parts will turn them off.

The CFO of the company, or whoever is in charge of the wallet, that's who.

You're right, you or I could buy one, and go through all teh steps and make it road-legal as mentioned above. But guess what, that's not free; addin gall that stuff takes time+ resources = money. Take a vehcile that's already fairly pricy, compared to a bike, small truck, or whatever, and add that extra cost... hard to justify total expense (from a business end).
Now that is for the folks who'd be BUYING them.
Why aren't they just sold as being road-legal?
Well, b/c that requires the seller to do all the extensive NHTSA testing, protocols, etc... making it "safe"... big $$ on their end. That is, if it will be SOLD as a DOT-approved vehicle. Plus, it's a whole level of liability for them. So, instead they save $$ by not doing that stuff.
And think of this - if you bought one, and made it "rroad worthy" by doing the above, but did nothing to improve the safety... sold it to me, then I drove it on the road and got flatted by an SUV... I could probably sue you. Not that it's the "right" to do so, but legally possible....

American Products in Pineville sells these small vehicles you speak of. There is also a guy at LeeBoy that has a cushman type vehicle that just got it street legal. It has only 3 wheels and uses a 150cc engine I believe. JeffB could prob get more info on that though.
