snake eating catfish

Saw this at badin today the snake came up with the fish from under the boat and took it to the shore to eat.

I really dont know but the cat was about 12'' long to give you a idea on the size of the snake
 
man i have seen some snakes at badin but dang that takes the big one!Thats crazy was the catfish dead already?

Have seen several too but this one was 5' maybe 6' but the fish was alive when he brought it up from under the boat!

That is a northern water snake, and if you look at the side of the catfish it appears to have a large growth, or some sort of previous injury. Catfish have real tough skin, there is no way the teeth on that snake could have caused that kind of damage. The catfish was probably sick and swimming near the surface of the water very slow and made for an easy target. I will say that is one of, if not the largest northern water snake I have ever seen.
 
I just wonder if it was able to really eat the fish or died trying.

I would say that he ate it because he has the largest part of the fish down already the head. That is the biggest one I have seen was about 5' long maybe a little bigger.
 
There was no turning back for the snake. The fangs on the bottom of the cat would prevent it from coming back out.:lol:
