So I found this Isuzu Trooper...

88 was somewhat of a bastard year for troopers... it was basically one big changover year for alot of stuff from 87 to 89. so, it really depends on the build date for exactly how many 87 parts it has or how many 89 parts. the major thing to look out for is the differentials. some had the older 10 bolt rear/8 bolt front. you want to newer 12 bolt rear/10 bolt front. it will be a fi 2.6 motor. typically, most 88's had the poor head castings. even if you do crack it, there's an aftermarket casting for ~500 bucks that is top quality and you'll never had a problem with. swapping a head on them isn't too terrible. looks like it's an ls, which is the nicer interior package (including the fully fold out rear seat that's kick ass for camping). really, you can't beat it for 800 bucks. they're basically bulletproof in stock trim except for the head issue.

put a caddy motor in it.. :huggy:

"1st Gen Escalade".. that cracked me up...

lol, yeah.

you can only "easily" put 60 degree gm motors in the v6 troopers (89-91). 3.4 camaro v6's and 4.5/4.9 caddy v8's work best.

my first vehicle was an 88 trooper and I wish i still had it. the only problems it ever gave me was 2 burnt valves. but after a valve job is was good to go. $800, i say go for it.

ed, if you really want another one i've got lines on 2-3 first gens in that price range...

When i was a little younger, my parents had the ugliest 1988 I have ever seen, but it went where you told it and never complained. The one you have in the pic is nice looking. just my .02

let me know of a few of those too! I think the 88's only came in Automatics, and i really dont want one of those, plus im looking for something closer, this ones out in fayetteville

no, they were primarily 5 speeds actually. i gotta give Rip first chance at them since he's a friend, i'll send them your way if he's not interested.

Paul hasn't paid me for my old Trooper with the 3.4, so I might just go take that back. The bitch is gone now so I can afford it.

so they wernt mostly automatics? If that ones not an auto im gonna pick it up and tuck some bigger rubber under it.

yeah, it's actually pretty rare to find an auto 4 cylinder. little more common in the v6's.

seems like im not the only fan here!!

believe me, if i get this im gonna take it everwhere, expect to see me at Uwharrie when the forum heads up there!
