So my son wants something to ride, Advice?

Hey Mike.Get him one of those Kid ATV's that are sold at the flea market.I think they're 400+/- new. They also can be adjusted for speed...

I'm in about the same boat, I think I'll just push the bicycles, they're cheaper and easier to maintain
My 5.5yr old loves riding his bike, he lost the training wheels early this year. The 4 yr old twins still love the power wheels jeeps though. They are still biking on training wheels, but after a short bit, they would rather ride the power wheels.

I left out the part where me and my bro had those same type, my bro took the 5hp off the snow blower and with a different sprocket it could do 45mph np. :) pops wasn't to happy seeing the snow blower in pieces in the garage but he didn't yell too much..

What about one of thosel ittle go-karts they have at Fermer's Hardware etc?

Personally I'm want to keep my 6 year old on the street and grass... most any kind of ATV will encourage getting off into the woods where the danger begins.

Wrecking on pavement is pretty dangerous, nothing like road rash :D

I had a power wheels when I was little, then don't remember really having anything other than a bike till I was probably 13 or so (when we got a ATV). My dad did let me ride the mower (with deck removed) around the woods, and we had an old aircraft Tug at one time I drove some. Can't remember if we ever had a go-cart, if we did it probably didn't last long.

Stick with a bicycle, me and the neighbors went all over the place on bikes, it'll keep him in shape :D

i went through this same deal with my twin boys who are now 6. i looked at all the atvs and i went with a honda crf50 two wheeler with training wheels. it runs awesome, isa cheaper than a new atv and you can not turn it over. i have tried to see how safe it was and if it would turn over and it wont. it also has the throttle screw you can turn down to slow it down,

ps- it also makes a good pit bike for dad to ride around!

When I was around 10, I found a gas scooter at a garage sale and bought it. I still have it but I need to order a new carb for it. It is similar to this: http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0002FA1IY.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg except without shocks in the front and knobby tires instead. I was the hottest thing on the block with it, and used it to get to friends houses quickly instead of riding my bike.

If that's the 33 or 39cc motor, I might have what you need here. Shoot me a pic of the carb.

I have one of the kids 4 wheelers with the adjustable throttle I want to sell for $250 . Runs great just needs a choke lever , choke still works just have to use a little force to turn it .

We bought it with the idea that my 5 year old daughter would like it , but she just isnt ready for it yet .

I got one of the Honda 70 ATV's back when I was 4, brand new off the showroom floor. Great little ATV and in my opinion much safer than a dirtbike. You can find them for $400-500 in good shape. Another good small ATV is the Honda 90 and the Suzuki LT80. Nice thing about the Suzuki is the belt drive transmission, so your kids won't have to worry about shifting gears like on the Honda's. All of these have the throttle limiter screw so you can slow them down for now and then they can grow into them.

Personally I would avoid buying the little flea market ATV's unless you just want something that can be thrown away in a year or two. Parts are usually nearly impossible to find and they always seem to have something broken on them or some kind of electrical issue. Spend the $400-500 on a good used Honda/Suzuki/Yamaha/Kawasaki and avoid all the other no-name knock-off stuff.

I say go with one of the little 70 four wheelers. Mbost's son is 4 and he rides one all over the place. You can make them slower if need be. They can be had used for real cheap.

Plus, they're fun for adults too! That is if you like looking like Mario go-cart! :p

Mike you can also finf the small fourwheelers that are not only adjustable as far as how much throttle the kid can use, but also has a remote control start/stop switch that you can control to keep him from doing things that might hurt him(big hills, jumps and so on)
I have seen them up to 110cc's and with enough power to carry an adult, but just remember, it's his, not yours! You would be able to ride with him until he got the hang of it.

I'm gonna throw in my opinion. I got my daughter one of those chinese 4wheelers for her 5th birthday. She's still riding it at 7 years old. It has never needed anything other than gas. It's honestly paid for itself in the fun her and I have had riding together. If you go this route, do your homework. The chinese quads all look the same, but they aren't. Find a dealer that has good reviews and talk to them. I can give you the contact info for the dealer where I got my daughters quad if interested. Here's a pic from her b-day over 2 years ago.
