some random weekend @ Harlan

looks like a good time. How did your van do on gas up there. Just curious cause i got a 6.0 chevy truck ill be pulling with up there soon.

broke d300 stock output..

lots of paper planning on a buggy, with the economy being what it is right now, I'm not going to spend $ on unneeded stuff... Plan is to do mods on the jeep that can be moved over to something else when that time comes...

van - First tank had ~150 of empty DD type miles so that one only dropped to 15mpg, the others was 10.8 and 10.5 that included the big hill, Old Fort mtn. (I40) FWIW: I've got 3.73s.

Did you go 40 to tn. or did you take 81? Just curious how the 6.0 did pulling through the mountains. I know mine was sweating pulling up 421 mountain to mtn city. Of course i hit the bottom at a very slow pace.

I took 40-> I81 on the way out as I had to stop in Morganton, then 25E -> 119 up into Harlan I took I81/I77 on the way back. I held 45 on Old Fort (Black Mountain) and could have pulled faster had I wanted to spin more RPMs. Granted I was in 2nd for a good portion of it, but I didn't feel like the motor was sweating like you mentioned. I had to back off to avoid a crawling truck then pull out and pass, I was able to recover lost speed and get back up to 45. Tow Haul mode is really nice, while not as capable as a 03 dodge HO 6 speed ;) it works excellent for what I need. I've been very happy with the performance of this van, I'm glad I held out for a 6.0L vs the 5.7 for a smaller engine.

What year is your truck? How your air filter and other basic maintenance items? It's definitely moving some air at the higher RPMs.

Sounds like the van is working awesome. My truck in an 02. It only has 60.000 miles so i havent touched the plugs or anything, but the airfilter has been swapped out with an afe intake, and it has a flowmaster muff. I havent changed the fuelfilter yet but i will. When i hit the 421 mtn to boone i was running 50 in drive. I tried to hold it about half throttle and realized i was losing. Held it to the mat when it fell to about 35 and it shifted to second and kept falling till it hit about 25. Temp climbed about 30 degrees as well. I was ready to stop in boone and trade for a cummins, then i realized how i dont like the sound of a diesel. lol I think if i hit the bottome with more momentem i woulda been fine. It usually pulls pretty darn good though.
