Something a little different

A D2 build. The main goals were to use easily replenishable parts and as much of the stock parts as I could. The truck is going to Iceland for some tech recon stuff, so goals were reliability, and ground clearance for deep snow crossings, up travel was limited to keep a low center of gravity. Swapped in some yota 80 axles, elockers, 36" Iroks on TrailReady beads. The build was sponsored by Rovertym and contracted me out to do the work. I took some buildup pics:

100_1286.jpgThe rear got some high clearence LCA's. The rear upper, I had to ditch the factory unit that used bushings and a TRE for the center 3-link. Made a new custom unit that used heims for a little free-er movement.

100_1298.jpgHad to make my own driveshaft adaptor from the Rover driveshaft to the yota flange. Time & $ was short so I had to machine one up.

100_1284.jpgThe front was a little difficult. Wanted to try and keep the factory radius arm, but with a 4" lift it put it at a severe angle, and factory it is under the axle limiting ground clearence. So it got cut up and reindexed to keep a proper geometry, I also flipped it upside down and put it on top of the axle to keep ground clearence up. It was notched for behind the axle tie rod.

i dont think a DII would have been my first choice. does it have CDL?

a DI would have been better. an FJ60 lol..or even 80 for that matter, seems would have made a more reliable vehicle. Arent most of the Icelandic adventure vehicles fj80s anyway?

Still...cool fabrication. cant hate too much on something thats got that much blood sweat and tears in it.

OH....re inforce those factory radius arm mounts. they like to break when you are very far away from home!

post up some pics of the rover when you get a chance

100_1301.jpgA few more pics of todays progress. Fab'd up a panhard and drag link. Machined the drag link out of 1.25" solid stainless. Drilled & tapped it on the lathe. Also made the jam nuts out of the same stainless rod. Everything was hand made, all the tube inserts, misalignment spacers, jam nuts, etc.

It is actually a Rover Classic, I call everything D2's cause they are the only ones I can identify. Heres a pic just after I massaged the fenders.

Great looking truck! Would you be interested in doing some fab work for a d2. I am looking to do a few more suspension mods and add an internal rollcage.

Thanks,

c-

Ah, the classic is a much better choice. good looking truck too.

last set - finished it off. Had a few issues with the panhard and bump steer, and had some probs with the rear brakes. Got it all situated. Got the shocks on, had some custom valved radflo res shocks.
