hey all

mom bought an 01 nissan pathfinder. it has less than 60... miles on it.
when you get on the gas it has what sounds to be a spark nock. it doesn't sound good really. i told her to run the highest gas and she did for about 3 tanks. it still does it. anyone have any sugestions? ANYTHING

change the fuel filter, have the fuel pressure /volume checked, fuel pump could be on it's way out ( weak pressure, low volume will cause a lean condition).

have the injectors cleaned, might have a few that are partially clogged causing same condition.

May also have the cooling system checked, it may be running too hot, but not hot enough to set off a code. ( Factory gauges are not very accurate )

Technically, spark knock is a misfire, on the newer vehicles, it does set a code.

I has a Diahatsu Rocky for over seven years and it did that all the time. If I ran high test it would stop. A couple of my friends have or own nissan pathfinders and I've never heard one spark knock with low test. Sounds like it's something other than a gas issue.

It May Have Carbon Build Up In The Cylinders

How does this post help ?

How does his mom check for carbon build up on her cylinders ? Is there a CBU test kit ? a CBU tool, a CBU brush ? Should she poor CBU remover in the gas tank or a little soapy water in the intake ? How does one know their CBU levels ? Is there a CBU guage that could be installed ? Maybe a book 'Mom's and CBU' or 'CBU for dummies' Is there a CBU website that would explain this ? How does CBU incure knocking ?
Please explain what you know about CBU in relation to knocking that would be helpful here. I'm certainly no CBU expert and would like to learn more about CBU

Try a can of BG 44k. It's a fuel system cleaner/fuel injector cleaner. put it a full tank like the can says. It's expensive for fuel injector cleaner ($30) but it works great. I had a clogged fuel injector on a 91 yota that it cleaned right up. I think most parts stores should sell it. If not try Fred Anderson Toyota. I know they used to sell it.

My wife and I used to have a 2000 Xterra (3.3L V6) that would spark knock at certain loads/throttle positions. I ran a bottle of fuel injector cleaner through it and it cleared it up - the Lucas brand that is called "Tune Up in a Bottle" or something like that. After about 10k miles, it was doing it again, so I ran another bottle of the Lucas stuff, and it fixed it again, and we never had another problem with it. Might want to try it - easy and cheap if it works. :)

she ran a different fuel brand and a the best grade and she said it helped so i will also get her some fuel cleaner. thanks

seafoam through a tank of gas and then through the brake booster hose. assuming it's not a mechanical issue.
