Got some questions for the masses...recently purchased a 2005 Rubicon LJ...guy I bought it from said it had a 4" lift with 35's??? but he did not know what kind, it looked more like a 6" to me but it looked good and was a good deal so I said what the hell...

well fast forward a couple weeks...crawled all over it and finally figured out it was a 6" Rough Country long arm kit with their matching shocks...well it might crawl like hell (not tested yet) but it rides like shit.
the wife wanted to use it for longer jeep trips and rest the old CJ's poor bones but the CJ rides better...I've played with several tire pressures, checked all ball joints/steering joints, track bar, all suspension attachment points and everything seems fine and torqued to spec

SO...I started searching boards everywhere and I found that many people with Rough Country long arm kits were having the same issues...people seemed to say that a simple changing our of shocks can fix the 1800 century buggy ride. But I wanted to ask yall what your take on this is and if you agree what shocks would I be best going with. Don't want to spend $400-$500 on shocks to just mask a problem or just make things marginally better.

Also spoke with the techs at Rough Country who said that I could go down to a 4" kit by just changing out the springs and adjusting trac bars and upper and lower links...who makes a good riding spring???

As much as I would like to think that I will be making it to the trails once or twice a month the truth is it will most likely be more like once or twice a year so I'm afraid this Jeep will be driven by me or my wife on the road mostly.

And while I'm at it what kind of mileage do yall get on your Jeeps??? Don't get me wrong I don't expect the moon but the 7mpg I got last week is crazy I think.

addition: 35" BFG KM2 and still running the Rubicon 4.10 gears

Dont buy cheap shocks , rc shocks rode excellent on my tj for a few months then turned to shit.

I now run bilsteins on my jeeps and its a world of difference. Theyll run you 350$ or so for all four corners.

I usually find my part numbers and then order from a local vendor but last time i think i got them on amazon for shipping time.

does anyone have an opinion on the Pro Comp MX6 adjustables...looked into the Rancho adjustables but go figure they make them for a 3" or 6" lift not 4"...i was thinking adjustable so I could have the best of both worlds??? but what the the hell do i know

Mine has had Rough Country shocks on it for three years or so with their progressive rate 2-1/2" springs. Rides great, and the shocks are guaranteed. Cyd's has some Chin Shen White Shock Ltd. shocks on hers. Rides like a dump truck.

I've been happy with all the Bilsteins I've had, but never had any on the jeeps.

big tires with high load rating + lightweight Jeep + too high tire pressure + crap shocks

it has a healtech on it ...but honestly I have not checked to see if it is calibrated correctly...guess I should do that

well that's one vote for Bilsteins (i'm assuming 5100's)...4wheel parts have a deal on them right now ($280 a set)

anyone know much about the Old Man Emu's...pricey but are they worth it? any opinions on brands of coils???

yeah tires are D rated but I'm only running 30psi in them so I think that should be about right for the weight rating on the Jeep...but yes they all do equal a crappy ride
