Got some questions for the masses...recently purchased a 2005 Rubicon LJ...guy I bought it from said it had a 4" lift with 35's??? but he did not know what kind, it looked more like a 6" to me but it looked good and was a good deal so I said what the hell...
well fast forward a couple weeks...crawled all over it and finally figured out it was a 6" Rough Country long arm kit with their matching shocks...well it might crawl like hell (not tested yet) but it rides like shit.
the wife wanted to use it for longer jeep trips and rest the old CJ's poor bones but the CJ rides better...I've played with several tire pressures, checked all ball joints/steering joints, track bar, all suspension attachment points and everything seems fine and torqued to spec
SO...I started searching boards everywhere and I found that many people with Rough Country long arm kits were having the same issues...people seemed to say that a simple changing our of shocks can fix the 1800 century buggy ride. But I wanted to ask yall what your take on this is and if you agree what shocks would I be best going with. Don't want to spend $400-$500 on shocks to just mask a problem or just make things marginally better.
Also spoke with the techs at Rough Country who said that I could go down to a 4" kit by just changing out the springs and adjusting trac bars and upper and lower links...who makes a good riding spring???
As much as I would like to think that I will be making it to the trails once or twice a month the truth is it will most likely be more like once or twice a year so I'm afraid this Jeep will be driven by me or my wife on the road mostly.
And while I'm at it what kind of mileage do yall get on your Jeeps??? Don't get me wrong I don't expect the moon but the 7mpg I got last week is crazy I think.
addition: 35" BFG KM2 and still running the Rubicon 4.10 gears
