squeling cb question...

I had a 102" whip on my M38 and was beating everything to death with it.It finally broke off and I have replaced it with a 4 foot firestick and a spring.The whip worked good with no problems.Changing to the firestick I have now developed key on squell.I do not hear it through the speaker.The swr has been set and nothing else has changed with the setup.The cb is a small uniden unit that I have kept removable and installed a power point plug for it.No looped coax. Any ideas before I take it to cb20 here in town and pay to have it checked out?

Jimmy,

Make sure you have a good ground. Do a temp bypass around the power point and power it straight to the battery and frame.

Has this started since your last trip? I knew your transmission had a little static if someone was too close back in November but otherwise I thought it was good.
