so I dropped the 350 in my jeep and went out and bought a new starter. I hooked the positive cable to the big post, and the starter wire to the "S" terminal and it still wont turn over. Could it be a safety switch from the transmission? I remembered after an hour of fighting i realized that there is a neutral saftey switch, BUT WHERE IS IT AT, and HOW DO I BYPASS IT?

Usually on the transmission, near the shifter. (I think.) As for bypassing it, I think you would just jump it, but other things might not work, depending on how old everything is. It's kind of a good safety feature, but I'd still put a switch on the dash to bypass it should you need to.

I had this same situation when I put the Ranger cab on my Bronco chassis. I looked at the wiring schematic in the Ranger manual and found which wires I needed to connect to put the truck in 'PARK'.

Yo,
Like the older Fords, I think Jeep still uses an isolation relay between battery and starter. If so, the small wire running to the side of the relay, likely on passenger fender, will need to be connected directly to the ignition switch. You may be able to find on the internet, or look at a replacement switch, to find out which wire is fed 12v when the switch is turned to start.
A voltage meter would tell you that for sure but PITA. I think same wire runs from switch to NSS to relay. May get lucky and all have same color.
