Steel hawse with synthetic rope?

I want to switch to synthetic line on my winch, and I currently have a steel hawse fairlead on it. Will that work or do I need an aluminum fairlead?

I would get a new one, only about $20 on Amazon.

It should work, but if there are any gouges or do scratches in it, from the cable, it will cut the rope.

A friend used tube in an oval shape with the rope for a long time, and it works great
