I am attempting to replace the fragged U-joint in my steering shaft.
I removed the wheel, the column itself, and loosened the clamps both at teh box, and where the yoke slides onto the lower shaft.
I can't seem to get either of them off of the splined area.
Am I missing something, or do I need a B(igger)FH?
I am at the point now of considering removal of the whole steering box so I can beat on it in my shop...

When they're rusted, they're a bitch to get apart. Soak with PB and give it some love all around the joint. When I did one on a CJ, I had t soak it, whack it and wiggle it for about an hour to get it to separate. Sorry, I've been there.

i am thinking you need to remove the bolt for the clamp at both ends. it should slide off easily then. I cant say for sure on the commando, but many are made this way. the splined shaft has a flat or notched section that the bolt rests against.

Woops, now that you pointed that out, the bolts have to some out if the shaft is the same as the CJ. THere is a notch for the bolt in the shaft.
