My gear guy is installing my gears and lockers in my new tons in my Early Bronco and have come across a problem. My axle is out of a 2004 F350 so I have a long pinion housing and long pinion gears. The old and new pinions are exactly the same length but the actual gear height is different between the old 3.73 and the new 4.88. There is approximately 5mm difference between the two gears, the 4.88 being shorter. In order to get the new 4.88 the same depth as the old 3.73 we will need over 5mm's of shim. Is this correct or do I have the wrong gears. I can get a pic, but the shop is across town. Headed to Harlan, KY on Thursday and need this fixed ASAP. Any help is appreciated.
PS
I got the gears from Performance Offroad Center and I do not know the brand.
