Stop Sign ticket advice

Got pulled over today for the 1st time in 11 years. I didn't come to a complete stop before pulling onto a secondary road. I do admit to not stopping completely and admitted it to the LEO when he asked. I was polite and courteous. The officer thanked me for being nice. He asked why I had SC plates in NC (company vehicle), and I explained it to him.
He gave me a ticket for failing to stop at the sign, I expected that. What I didn't expect was that the fine for running the stop sign was $25 (less than I thought it would be), but there are court costs on the ticket for $100  . Even if I sign the ticket and send in the money and don't go to court at all, I still pay $100 in court costs? Doesn't seem right to me.

One last thing, the LEO did not have me sign the ticket, I thought you were supposed to? After any speeding ticket I got in the (way back) past, I had to sign it.
What are the recommendations of the Board?
I know I fucked up and am ready to pay the ticket, but should I go to court and ask for a prayer for judgement? It is also 1 point on my liscence (which is completely clean :kaioken: )

Actually its 3 points on your license. And, you don't have to sign the citation. I can't remember the last signature I collected, just too dangerous taking the whole citation book up with me.

With a record as clean as you say yours is, I would suggest going to court and seeing what the DA is willing to do to help you out. Worse case scenerio is you have to pay the $125 that you would have payed by mail. Best case is you walk out with paying nothing and still having a clear license.

Go to the DMV nad get a paper to send and get a copy of your driving record, most DA will let you plead to a non moving violation. but you need a copy of your driving record.

They can pull your driving history in the DA's office off of NLETS.

The LEO told me it was one point. I asked him if it came with any points and he said 1.
I guess I will go to the DA and see what can be done. i appreciate the info, hopefully they will be lenient on me.
I drive over 40,000 miles a year for work and this is the 1st time I have been pulled over in 6 years. I am not perfect, but I try to drive defensively and courteously.

Hmmmm, talking out of his nether region. The only violation that is worth 1 pt is littering from motor vehicle. Your driver's history will be very helpful when it comes to court time.

The true story

Uglyjeepoffroad runs a stop sign and gets pulled over by a police officer. He thinks that he is smarter than the Deputy because he is sure that he has a better education. He decides to prove this to himself and have some fun at the deputies' expense...........

LEO: "License and registration, please."

Uglyjeepoffroad: "What for?"

LEO: "You didn't come to a complete stop at the stop sign."

Uglyjeepoffroad: "I slowed down, and no one was coming."

LEO: "You still didn't come to a complete stop. License and registration, please."

Uglyjeepoffroad: "What's the difference?"

LEO: "The difference is, you have to come to a complete stop, that's the law. License and registration, please!"

Uglyjeepoffroad: "If you can show me the legal difference between slow down and stop, I'll give you my license and registration and you give me the ticket, if not you let me go and no ticket."

LEO: "Exit your vehicle, sir."

At this point, the Deputy takes out his nightstick and starts beating the ever-loving crap out of Uglyjeepoffroad and says: "DO YOU WANT ME TO STOP OR JUST SLOW DOWN?" :D

My wife and I have been to see the assistant DA three times. Twice for inspection stickers and once for crossing the center line (accident-wife's) and he dismissed all them, one a year for the last couple years. They are very easy to deal with at the Catawba County Courthouse. We are very polite though!

dont know if it is a coincidence or not...but when i just got my first ticket, about a month ago, it was for expired regisration sticker and seat belt violation, he told me it was $50 for the sticker and $75 for the seat belt, but looking on the citation, it said fines were $25 and court costs were $100

The ticket is right. The seatbelt alone would be $25+$50costs for $75. The tag would be $25+$100costs for $125. Maximum of two charges per citation with the highest penalty being assessed, in this case $125.

Hello everyone, new Guy here...........

This is a point for all you physics nuts out there......

When an object is traveling at a constant speed THEN accelerates, there has been no loss of velocity.

HOWEVER, when an object is traveling at a DECREASING speed, or decelerating, and then speeds up, MATHEMATICALLY speaking, velocity MUST reach zero.

This will probably not impress the DA, and will definately not get you out of a ticket but I thought you would get a kick out of it
