Friday i was riding along at UNF, and all of a sudden the engine in my toyota bogged down and knocked off very quickly. I tried to restart it but it could barely turn over, maybe one revolution every 2 seconds, bairly turning over. We hooked a strap to my brother in laws four wheeler and pulled it. As soon as i would let the clutch out, it would come to a stop, four wheeler couldnt budge it.

We sat for a minute or two and tried to restart it again. It turned over very slowly like before but then started to turn over faster. I gave it some gas and it cranked, but was struggling to run for a few seconds. One of the belts was squeeling very loudly. I held it at about 2000 rpms for 5 seconds then all of a sudden the squeeling stopped and you could tell the load was off the engine. I let off the gas and it idled normally. The truck ran perfect for the next 4 hours. I drove it on saturday for about 20 minutes no problems. Everything is perfectly normal, no smoke, no overheating, full of oil, runs exactly like always. The engine was just rebuilt about 2000 miles ago, and has been running excellent.

Is it possible the alternator locked up, or the power steering pump? I really cant figure out what happened, and dont know where to start. Thanks for the help.

I think you have diagnosed it right - sounds like one of the accessories locked up. That would explain the squealing belt. I don't know how to tell which one locked up though, unless one of them is now making noise (like bad bearing or something). If it happens again, you could loosen the belts and see which one it is, but it would suck to have to wait for it to happen again, not knowing when/where it might happen.

Is any one belt particularly worn, burnt, or smoky-looking? I would think that this would be an obvious symptom if it was indeed an accessory failure.

None of the belts were obviously burnt or frayed. I think it locked up quick enough that it never really slipped the belt. The only time the belt squealled was when it cranked back up, and that was only for a few seconds.

Sounds like bearing on one of your accessorys.

I would check each of them after running and see if one is exceptionally hot.

I have a yota, and when i go in some water it does that same thing, I think water gets in the dist. cap

Sounds like water/mud on the frame ground and a loose/worn belt.
