Stretching a CJ5

Cut it in half add desired length & weld it back together.

I'd look at Durango rear leafs. I did XJ rear leafs and turned them backwards to gain about 8". You'll also want to go SOA if you aren't already because they are fairly flat. Need to consider clearing the gas tank with this option also.

The more labor intensive is like JeffB mentioned. Cut it in half and stretch to desired length. But it is the better option for the final product.

Easiest may be to sell it and buy a CJ7.

The pic with the 33s I just flipped the rear shackle mount and moved the fixed mount up front to match.

When i did soa with fullwidths i used xj springs with the oem mounts moved back 6 or 7 inches. I had to add to the frame in the rear but its not too much. I dont like to see them with a foot added to the rear of the frame....looks bad imo. I ended up with 100" wb. Its ok but with 39s id love to get it around 106 or so. I may do full hydro and move the front foward eventually. I think i have the rear moved back as far as i can without it looking stupid. If there are any specific pics ya want let me know.

Also you will most def need a traction bar when doing soa on xj springs. I would also suggest using spring clamps to keep them from fanning out. I have added a suburban spring somewhere in my pack to get a lil more lift too. You will also need to move the fuel tank if you are using the xj springs. Im able to get a 28.5" rear dshaft in mine now. I think thats what was stock in it with the 3speed.

What tranny are you running? Do you have any more pic's of the backend? if so that would be great.

Im currently running a t18 dana 300 combo. Works great but thinking about going to automatic tf999. Ill see if i have some pics of the rear bumper area.
