What is a sway bar and also what is the purpose of one?

Reason I ask is when going into turns in my 78 Chevy whisch has a 4" suspension lift and 35's, I have to slow down because my truck feels like it ......floats...???.... out away from the curve into the other lane. So what can I do to keep this from happening?

A bar that links the axle to the frame via bushings and prevents what you are going through now when you turn. Also reduces articulation off road. If you don't wheel it much, it will help reduce a lot of that body roll. If you do wheel it get some / make some disconnects to "disable" the sway bar during wheeling.
I had the same issue with a full size bronco. I ran a little stiffer shocks to reduce it, but dealt with the roll in the curves.
