switch problems

I have a cj5 and I had to put a new ignition switch in it the other day. Now it is doing the same thing where when I turn the key it doesn't engage the little plastic gear that pushes the rod to start the engine. The little gear is that something that normally wears out and is replaceable or do I need to find another steering column? If any one has had a similar problem I would like to hear from you. thx

As in the starter isn't turning? Do the acc and ign positions work? (i.e., does the radio come on)

the switch controls a rod that runs the length of the column that operates all that and the switch will not move that rod.

look at quadratec or 4wd.com you should be able to find a parts for the column there. The parts get worn over time. One of my CJ's wont switch to ACC I just havent gotten around to fixing it yet.

I've been thinking about it and I think I will just go ahead and put a push button start on it in the morning. It will just make it a little more simple on the trail to start it with a push button considering how many times I have to start it since the carb floods alot. Thanks for the input though. I may have some ?'s about wiring the push button before it is over with.
