I think my T-Case chain is off or coming off. Anyone close to the Charlotte area that could maybe lend me a hand with this? I'm trying to drive the 4Runner this weekend. It's been weeks since its run right.

Thanks

If your chain has come off you have bigger problems. It is not like putting a bicycle chain back on. Pull the case pop it apart and see what ya' got.

Ok. I've driven it a couple miles to get it back to my house with the noise. Do I just need sockets to pull the case? What kinda bigger problems do I have if the chain has come off? How common is this?

The only transfer case I have ever taken apart is the 231 for my cherokee. I would have to see your application. You need sockets to pull the case, a pry bar and a deadblow to split it.Then once you get it opened up you can see what thre problem is.

...and if you're asking a lot of these questions (as I would be)...you might just want to pull it out and run it up to Carolina Rock Shop...

I don't know what happened to my account. It won't let me reply or anything. I live in south Charlotte. Off of Carmel Rd near Hwy 51.

I'm the complete opposite side of town...in Huntersville...

I've never touched the inside of a t-case, but figured I could at least lend a hand to get it out if you were close...

maybe you'll find somebody that can actually offer some technical advice on your side of town...

I think i have a old chaindriven case behind the shop from a customers buildup....i can see if he still wants it or if he is looking to part with it cheap. I assume you are running the V6 chain case since you are talking about a chain. I am located in salisbury if you need some help....

What kind of noise is it making.....

Well, a Chevy part time TC chain doesn't turn unless it is engaged in four wheel drive. So if your's works the same way (as it should) it may just be a U-joint or something.

Hmm, well it's grinding like crazy. I haven't put it on a lift yet with the noise cause I don't want to drive it and ruin something.

Rocktoy4me, If you would be willing to help that would be great. I can buy you some lunch or pay you if you would like.

dontoe - I would LOVE for it to be a u-joint. How can I go about diagnosing this?

Put grease in your joints, if the squeaking stops then it is the joints. If the noise continues then you move on. :)
