i dont really understand how to make ur t-case have a doubler or twin stick or how to make it have front dig. i understand that all of these are different. so can somebody either explain it or post up a link that does. thanks

A doubler is an extra range box that goes between your transmission and transfer case to give you lower gears by "doubling" your existing low range. There are several options available now, many that will more than double your low range. Search Google for Klune, Off Road Design Doubler and Mad Rooster Crawl Box for some examples.
A twin stick comes for the ability on some tranfer cases to seperate the in and out of 4 Wheel Drive and the high and low range so that each has its own lever. Depending on the trans fercase you can then engage just the front axle in low range to perform a dig. Most common in Dana 300s form Jeeps I think, Kits are also avalable for the Dana 20 and some of the New Process cases.
Hope this helps.

Doesn't actually double your low range. It multiplies it.
Say you put a 231 crawl box in a Jeep with 231
2.72 X 2.72 = 7.39
In my case a 231 crawl box mated to a 300 with 4.0
2.72 X 4.0 = 10.88
So actually better than double.
I think the "doubler term comes from "double transfercases"

what tranny and tcase do you have now and someone can tell you what kind of doubler you can make.

thanks for the input. another question? so a range box will double(multiply) my low range gear... it will do the same to high range too, rite.... so i guess i understand it a little better.

E4OD tranny with borg warner t-case. i cant remember which number it is. i am pretty sure that i can put a NP 208 on the back of the tranny. so lets just say that i want to have the option of front wheel drive high and low, as well as lower overall gearing.(use the NP 208 as a reference, unless i can mate the NP and BW). thanks alot

i dont know what will mat up to a e40d or what borg warner came in it. i just know about my ford setup but there are setups that use the 208, keep in mind that it is chaindriven and your rig is heavy. not the best choice but it does work pretty damn well. a great choice would be if an NP203 would mat up that way you could get a NP205 to put on the back. its simple. you take apart the 203. you only need the front half which is called the range box, which simply put engages the 1.96:1 now you buy a doubler kit and mount up the 205 which is 1.96:1 you basically have a 4:1 low range. if you do this you can triple stick the set up. front dig hi and low or front neutral rear high low. once you dig around a bit you will find its pretty damn simple and lots of companys make parts for them. i dont have time to do links but offroaddesign, northwestfab make some good doublers

Check out DD Machine on Pirate. I Know they make one for a borg warner t-case in a ranger(I have this one) and I think they make one for other ford borg warner t-cases. They have a lot of options on what you can use as a second t-case. The kit went together easy I just need to take apart my second t-case and fix all the leaks it has. (it was a used case I got from e-bay for $20)

aight. thanks for all of the advice. i have np 208 t-cases by the numbers so i will use them. just one more question? when front dig is engaged the rear end is free wheelin??????

you cant go wrong with the 203/205 and when you front dig the gears to engage the rear wont even turn because the shifter for the rear will be in neutral.

Spend the money putting power to the motor rather than gearing

having Power can turn the tires all you want em to, low gears slow you down. IMO I would only put a doubler in something that sees pretty much nothing but rocks . . . well I still wouldn't, I'd rather just build the engine :driver:

And you can still twin stick alot of Tcase's without doubling them, plus I would gear the axles real low b4 I did the tcase's

Id do the tcase before the axles. A doubler can provide more options than gearing an axle. And while I love big blocks and big hp and torque, a big motor isnt always the best answer.

Worst. advice. ever.

After taking a couple of wheeling trips to see what "works" and what doesn't, my thoughts are this. I've seen a lot of high dollar buggies with big power and alot, not all(before I get blasted) seems that the high power stuff self destructs. I'm going yota doubled up and geared. My answer would be doulbe it. Pm slim and he knows his setup is tried and true.

Nah, thats def true, the bigger they are the harder they fall . . . .

Buuut its much more interesting to watch a Big one fall hard than a little one calmly succeed :driver:

Its more fun to watch the little one succeed AFTER the big one fails.
