I have a '93 ZJ w/full time 4wd. I want to swap in a 231 t-case. Tranny is AW4. How difficult will this swap be? Spline count the same? Etc.

there are different Spline counts, But you can find 249's (AWD version) that have the same spline count as the 231. Aside from that, the bolt pattern is the same and it'll bolt right up. I thin kthey are also the same length so Drive shaft length should be a non issue.

I don't recall the spline counts, so count them and find a 231 with the same count.

Watch your Speedo Gear Tooth count also. I'm not sure if the 249 and the 231 use the same gear, but those might interchange.

I looked at this back when I had a ZJ w/ the 249, but I ended up just getting rid of teh whole Jeep.

Thanks. I haven't taken it apart yet, nor do I have the 231. Currently, it's my DD until I get the CJ engine back together.

Your trans should be a 23 spline output. It should just bolt up if you get a 23 spline 231. The 4 cly 231's came with 21 spline, so leave them alone.
