I have 2 XJs. The driveable one is a 4.0 Automatic w/ no tach. The undriveable one is same motor w/ a manual tranny and has a tach in the guage cluster.

Does anybody know if I could swap in the dash with the tach to my auto rig?

I've never had a truck w/out a tach & it's kinda WIERD. I'm wondering if the wiring for the different trannies & stuff is the same for the dash. Seeing all the corners Jeep usually cuts, I'd imagine it's the same.

I don't think so. It all depends if jeep put the wire there for the tach and just not the tach.

Should work, usually the wiring harness will have the provisions for it. I have done it an other vehicles with no problem

If not, its only 1 wire to add to get it to work, not a big deal

what years of XJ's are you dealing with ?

Non OBD2 may have a different communication system/protocal than a newer OBD2 system.

If they are both pre '96 there "shouldn't" be much issue.

something to think about.

Since they are both 88's, the gauge clusters are a direct swap. The other thing you'll have to change over is the oil pressure switch (near the oil filter) and the coolant temp sensor (on the back of the head, drivers side near the firewall).
