After getting the diff out of my '84 hilux it looks like a tacoma diff is bigger. I thought they were the same. Any ideas?

Never mind I answered my own question. The V6 third is different than the Tacoma V6 third. Missed that part in the article I was reading.

But at least I found out why it was so noisey. Looks like the pinion is rubbing the carrier. Not sure how long it's been like that since I don't know when it had been opened last time.

Thats pretty common on old 4cyl toy diffs. Once the crush sleeve gets compressed or warn, the pinion rides into the carrier when the housing flexs.

I think it's only noisey on decell. (Not that I can hear ANYTHING on accel.) I figured it was set up wrong too. I'm replacing it anyway so not too worried about it.
