Looking at selling my wifes 04 Wj and buying her a 03/05 Tahoe with the 5.3. We have a child due in June and she is going to need a family SUV that she can pull her 67 Camaro with. As of right now she drives the car to the shows and what not but with a newborn and all the stuff that goes along with the newborn, we was thinking this mite be the way to go. My question is, how well will a Tahoe do pulling? Trailer is a light weight 16ft car hauler with brakes on both axles

Should be fine. I'm always leery of towing with a semi-float axle, but that's not a huge payload. If you wanted more capability, you could always opt for a 2500 Suburban :driver: You'd get a 6.0, 4L80E, and a 14 bolt rear with discs.

Has she driven both? It's really not that big a difference. Tahoes suck, they don't have enough room and the back windows only roll down a few inches. But to answer your question yes it will pull a 16ft trailer fine. If the wj is v8 it will do about as well.

I tow with a 05 Denali and love it. It basically gets the same gas mileage, has the 6.0l with more h.p. and tourque, and all wheel drive. I pull my Toyota crawler and a 18ft trailor with only one braking axle and it gets the job done no problem.

P.s. also most have the entertainment system with t.v./dvd player which is a life saver with kids on trips. My kids used to fight in the car all the time and now I never hear a word out of them in the Denali!!

my wj is an V8 with only 83k on the clock but I've pulled with it and not happy with it at all. I've also pulled with a 98 1500 Chevy with 5.7 and did great, but she loves the look of an 5.3 body style. I've got my tow rig she just wants hers lol

I had an 01 and an 03 Tahoe/Yukon.

I towed plenty with mine including my heavy home built trailer and a 6,400 lb k5.

Plenty of power for towing.
Plenty of brakes for stopping.

The rear was a bit soft for my seat o meter. But I had a bunch of tongue weight.

If I were going to use that for towing regulalry that heavy I would have invested in a set of helper air bags.

For a light first gen 'ro....she will hunt the other end of the road.

I pulled my Grand Cherokee on 35s several times with a 99 Tahoe with the 5.7. The biggest problem I had was with the brakes, oh and on steep uphill grades I slowed to a crawl

A stock 5.3 would do fine, I'm sure. Throw a decent tune in it with the shift points adjusted and it will be a different animal.

I guess I'm just used to diesels when it comes to towing cause my 06 tahoe 5.3 wouldn pull a greasy string out of a cats butt, but saying that neither will my f150.

Well I think every Tahoe owner would love a small V8 or large V6 dmax. But guess Chevy just didn't wanna go with that lol

I've got my K30 for towing purposes. The old Cummins with a 5 speed makes short work of things that the 6.0 in my Silverado doesn't want to pull. However, it's a toss up between covering everything on the trailer with soot or just moving what needs to be moved. You'll be fine with a smaller trailer like you're talking about.

Throw a car seat in the back of the Camaro and quit being a wuss! ;) Cool kids grow up in the back of hot cars. The Tahoe is going to be a compromise. It'll tow, but with a big-ass baby carrier Graco piece of luggage strapped in the rear, I hope one of you is short! I guess you could put it in the middle, but what do you do when #2 cones along? If she's bent on a tow rig, find a 2003 or 4 3/4 ton Suburban with quadrasteer. Parking problem solved. Personally, though, I'd just strap the seat into the Camaro and head out. I love seeing car seats in show cars. That's how you get the kids interested in the hobby. Participation.

I agree i just got a sick simpson racing seat for my sisters kid so he can ride in the blazer and dually.

My friend tows his 18 ft enclosed race trailer with his prostreet car in it with no problem with his 04 z71 tahoe all it has done to it is headers exhaust intake and a tune

lol I like your answer but this is my #2 and their WILL NOT be a 3rd lol. We just got back from Run to the Sun show at the beach and she drove it the whole time, but by time we got back she was hurting really bad. I've hauled my 66 chevelle in the enclosed behind my rollback and hauled my dads 67 prostreet on the bed. We have looked some and she is thinking more along the lines of a suburban now also

Two was enough for us! I'll take frozen peas for a week over another three years of diapers! I guess the best solution would be to sell the Camaro and get something practical. Like a 65 Lincoln or a 67 Impala. Something four-door and family friendly. Of course, it will have to be bagged. Kids love it when you lay frame and throw sparks at 55mph.
