I want to take the AC off my xj . What is the best route ? can i take it off and find a belt or do i have to fab a bracket and pully? need help

fab a bracket with pully, there is no belt that will fit the 4.0 HO with no ac.

just buy a belt for the same motor with out ac. you can leave the compressor there if you like or take it off. Another route, would be to keep the compressor and belt setup you have now and convert the compressor to an onboard air setup.

well if you did it on a tj the other week with a 6cyl 4.0 then i guess i am not sure, but i do not know of a 4.0 that was produced that did not have ac? was your tj a 6 cyl? i tried on my XJ and could never find one...

I'll add this much. Back home in Washington state most vehicles did not come with a/c. It was an option from the dealer. It was not uncommon to find a fully loaded vehicle (power everything, leather etc...) without a/c. I'm sure there are XJ's out there without a/c. You just have to find them. You could also try looking on eBay for a bypass pulley.

Thanks guys for the feedback i checked with a couple of parts dealers in the area and they did have a bypass pully that will bolt right on. but thanks again for all the help

the TJ was a 2000 model or so and was a 4.0L

I just went to auto zone or somewhere and told them i needed a belt for the same vehichle but with out ac. Lots of northern states or canada sells jeeps with out ac. some even come with block heaters instead.

another thing to do, is if the xj isn't your dd, then take off the AC and just measure what size belt you'll need and match it up with one from a parts store

the ac on an xj cannot be just bypassed. And for a 92 the bracket is JUST off from where it needs to be. I bought the bracket and just had to space the pulley forward a bit. You could remove the ac and then relocate the Alt up to that spot with the bracket from a grand cherokee, then delete the ac. But the easiest way would be to just rig up a dummy pulley
