Tapping link tubing

with 1" ID, .250 wall tube can it be tapped to accept 1 1/4" joints? is it to small, to big, just right?

On a lathe after opening up the ID, yes. Not by hand though.

I am currently doing this with my uppers. just dropped them off at the shop today.


I thought the wall may be a little thin but the tube adapters for 1.5" ID tube are the same thickness so I'd figure for my uppers they would be fine. I'll add some bracing to them for a little extra beef just in case.

Thanks for the answers Now I need to find the best price on 8 Johnny Joints or something comparable and 4- 1 1/2" tube adapters for the lowers.
