Tellico damage

I took my '88 GW to Tellico last Saturday with my buddy Tim and his '80 Toy pick-up. I had my friend Will and his wife Jenny riding shotgun in the Wag. It was freezing cold and sleeting pretty much all day. We trailered up from the Upstate, took us 3.5 hrs, snowing in the mountains! When we got there and ponied up the trail fee, we headed up trail 1 to 4 to 5 to 8, kind of a big loop. We went up to hardrock where I made the first climb up the big ledge but got stopped there. I had the big sucker sideways with all 4 smoking trying to get over the next ledge. My carb was really acting up and I still have a sticking throttle cable, so I backed down off the trail. My buddy Tim and his 'Yota almost rolled too, after he landed on all fours he inched left and made it up that slick son of a b'! It was awesome! He went up the trail to the next ledge and turned around 'cause he couldn't make it over the big rock, way too muddy and slick, we had no winch mounted. He was a bit on edge coming down slickrock, mostly because it was slick as owl poo. I only have a few pics, it was sleeting and it was hard to get a decent pic. Will braved the water and mud to get most of the pics and video.

I beat the crap out of my Jeep! Good thing its just a parts rig :D

Looks Like fun

I need to get out there as soon as I get the Chief running.

You Should PM ETJeep and ask for pics of his Rock sliders on his Waggy. He cut out the Rocker complete and put the Rock slider where the rockers were.

Ive done more damage than that just running over junk in my yard

Carl, Manhatten had some made the same way. I think they used square tube to do it. I'm thinking of doing that on my Chief as well. Gotta get bigger tires for Tellico though...at least 35's...minimum. I'm looking at some 36" TSL's. Thats what Tim has on his Toy', and they were just tall enough to keep from high centering a diff.

Carnage on the rockers? "round here we call that clearancing!
Like someone already said, the wheel will beat back out. What happened to the tire? Never a smart thing to do, going to Tellico without a winch that is!

When you partin out the waggy? I may be interested in some parts.

Aint no way to hammer that wheel back into shape and depend on it. The bead is flat for about 3". I think I could in an emergency but, $50 and I'm all new again. We knew the tire had spun and gone down, but we were pointed down hill on a rocky section of trail 4 I think, it was freezing rain, getting dark, and muddy as all get out. I figured for $50 I'll stay dry and almost warm so I rode the rim to the bottom where it flattened out. We had to get the spare out of the back of the Wag, yada yada yada....

We did have an 8274 with us on a multi-mount, for emergency use, it was burried on the floor of the GW. The only place to mount it was the trailer hitch on my Wag. We (Will) forgot to put the power cables in the Jeep and they sat in the 'Burb the whole time. We discovered that when it started to get dark and we were still 45 mins. from gravel and I lost a tire. Turns out we had enough jumper cables if need be.

upnover:
I'm keeping the good parts from this rig for my '90 model. Its a tow rig in the making. What do you need? I have a few. FSJ's that is.

My Wag made it past where that little YJ is rolled, then I was slid hard left into the bank and stuck on a small ledge, leaned over to the drivers door. I was sideways right about there where he landed on his side. That pos Edelbrock carb will not run pointed up and to the right. So I backed down the whole icy section, the big ledge...I still have to clean the spot on the seat where my ass grabbed the cover. The whole day though the Wag would get flexed up and the throttle cable would pull the throttle open, I would get over the rock or whatever and the pedal would come right back up and touch my shoe! I had fits keeping it running right. Lots of fun but this thing is toast. Time to get serious on the J truck...then the Chief!
