Has anyone on here done this swap, just wondering how it improved your ride. I am thinking of doing this to eliminate the duraspark junk. ALso what year cap rotor and wires do you use?

Are your wires crossed?

The "TFI" or "Team Rush" Upgrade involves the use of the Duraspark box, Ford TFI coil, cap adapter, larger cap & rotor, and wires. It's main purpose is to get rid of POINTS ignitions without blowing stoopid $$ on billet electronic dizzys & NASCAR grade MSDs. There are variants that swap the Duraspark II box for a GM HEI module though... So I'm unsure what your trying to accomplish

Here's a recent recount by "Team Rush" (now "JunkYard Genius") himself on the subject

FWIW, I did the upgrade (points dizzy was a POS & took forever to crank... worlds different now!) 3-4 years ago...
Motorcraft Electronic dizzy = '79 Waggy w/ 360 = remanned from AZ = $79
Cap/rotor/adapter/wires = IIRC, '79 F350 w/ non-ECC 460ci = +/- $100 from AZ
Duraspark II = "blue grommet" = freebie from Robert Britt when I bought the engine (new are $15)
Harness & connectors = junkyard from '83 F150 w/ V6 (no BS about V6s never being used! ) = $5

Took me all of an hour to install, time & test... usually fires instantly & driveablity improved 100% over points...

Reprint of original TEAM RUSH documentation with part numbers etc.

A bigger improvement after that is to swap the stock canister coil for a Ford TFI coil. But then it seems to become a crap shoot on how long the DurasparkII module lasts. seems 50/50 on killing it or running fine. I ran it like that fine with a ballast resistor and it ran great. then my resistor crapped out and I bypassed it. that killed the DSII module (that's the 50/50 part, running without a ballast resistor), and then I swapped the DSII for an HEI 4-pin module mounted to a computer proccessor heat sink to keep it cool. Now it runs like a champ. if you just look at the key it will fire right up on the first cylinder spark.

I have done several on AMC 360s. Makes a big difference on an engine that needs a tune-up and timing re-set. Doesn't seem to make a bit of difference on a well tuned engine. Most of the "best thing I've ever done" responses that I have heard have been from people that have never done a tune-up on their ride before the TFI. Just my 2 cents.
