Good Evening NC4x4,

I am trying to get the skinny on Durhamtown Tellico. I know it is a new park but from what I have read the place has grown in trails and quality. What I am most interested in is a brief description of what your rig was decked out in and if you think you got your money's worth. For example maybe something along the lines of you drove your jeep there, have front and rear lockers and 35s. Was able to ride all weekend only riding a trail twice or something like that. I only have time to go out riding a few times per year and am looking for somewhere new to go and camp with my dad. He has a Discovery II that is lifted and has armor so I would like to take my cherokee and his so we can both wheel. Obviously we would only ride the harder trails in my jeep.

I have had experience riding all of URE, big creek, Potts Mountain, and some fun scenic trails. Jeep cherokee Locked front and rear on 33s and have a lot of protection(used to be my DD). Is this the type of place I could spend a good weekend riding moderate trails and some of the single black diamond trails?

Thanks Guys,

Nick

I went two weekends ago, I didn't get to ride all the trails cause I broke but there seems to be a lot of medium and easy trails while I did find a trail that there was no way you could go up it with out something with 37s and good approach angles. The camp ground is on the back side of the property but they have a decently maintained trail that runs the whole length of the trail system. Go on the weekend they are actively logging the "bowl" area that has some stuff to test your skills on. That being said if I wouldn't have broke I could have rode every trail I wanted to in one day. Be careful not to get onto a utv/ATV trail they are tight. I was in a cherokee on 33s locked front and rear. There is enough there to have a good weekend of wheeling all being said I plan on going back and spending the weekend. One trail that runs to the old tellico I was told takes about 4.5 hours round trip on utv so maybe longer in full size rigs.

Great! Thanks Guys! Is it open year round because I would like to go around Christmas time.

I thought I'd add to this. I was at DT this past weekend and it was very wet. Crawfords Campground is where I'll be staying next time I go. I went as a scouting mission with some NAXJA friends to check it out. Everyone said they will be going back. We had 5 jeeps in the group. Me the biggest an xj on D60's and 42's with a driver that cannot drive.... ;) Next was an xj on 34's locked, then an xj on 33's locked, a stock JK with BFG at's and a stock tj on BFG at's both open. We ran in the Lucy gap road which was easy. the other two built xj's had to go address a fuel issue and they ran Plan Crash and said it was a good little trail with one obstacle they didn't have a problem with and then up to Ridge Road to the Buzzards Roost Overlook. I went with the stock guys up Buzzards Roost trail and was having fuel pump issues. After both got stuck and were having trouble the other two came down to help us all get back to less slick trails. We had a great time. I would recommend checking it out. I just posted a thread about our trip.
