It works when it wants to, whats the fix?
 
The fix for my TJ was a new switch. First the speed switch, then I had to replace the mode selector switch. I've also seen on the web that many people have a problem with the resistor bank.

Yes, easy to do. I don't remember the cost. I ordered them from moparpartsamerica.com. That was the cheapest I could find them.
On the TJ there was known issue (That Jeep won't recall) where the electrical connector on the mode select switch was overheating and melting the switch. The mode select switch in the TJ is mainly vacuum switches, but has 1 electrical switch on it for the AC compressor. That is what happened to mine. Some folks on the web wired up a relay to keep the amps going thru the switch low. I went the other route and wired up a separate switch that controls the AC compressor, but still had to replace the mode select switch because when it burnt, it burnt.
