The Pavillion

Burroughs and Chapin (who owns 30% of Myrtle Beach) decided the pavilion is no longer profitable. They've been working on something to restore the area (make more profit) for about 10 years. They were close to a design about 5 years ago, but found out the developer was corrupt. They've since been working on a new plan. Can't remember what the concept was now, but I beleive it was a condo tower off the ocean with lower height shopping, etc. on the ocean front.

Another contributing factor is the diminishing demand for an amusement park that will result from the Hard Rock Theme Park that is in the infastructure stage currently.

But yeah mostly greed and "progress"

I disagree with the hardrock theme park being the deciding factor. I am pretty sure Burroughs and Chapin had plans in the works long before Hardrock went to the county for approvals. Myrtle Beach's demand is dropping for tourism based entertainment due to the tremendous amount of people actually moving to the area. This includes primary residence and second home buyers who spend 30% or more of the year in the area. And a large portion of these people are not interested in this kind of entertainment due to age and lack of children at home. The vacancy rates in Myrtle Beach are rising in hotels/condo projects due partially due to the dropping #'s of tourists. The other part is due to the overbuild of units to be occupied(new projects).

I think the goal of hardrock is not to cash in on the existing market for amusements, but to create a market for amusements in an area that offers all of the supporting housing (for workers) hotels (for visitors) restaraunts, roads, and other activities for them before, during and after park day visits.

Just my 0.02 and no I am not a feasibility analyst.

The Fire Fox will be missed... It was a classic! Nothing like the fear of not just the roller coaster itself but the added fear that the thing sounds like it could rip apart in any given second. THAT's pure adrenaline!

A guy who owns a ice cream shop next to the Pavillion told me they were not making enough money, hardly enough to pay the property tax. He said they were building condos, I think he said they were going to start with 300. Here's a pic of a bigass sandcastle they had built for the last summer of the Pavillion.

Small word huge difference....
Not deciding, contributing factor

Or honestly just a good excuse to save face in the papers.

At some point there was talk about Beaulineau buying the damn thing and moving it to the Grove...Hell he outta put it inside that damn overpriced Gstore with everything else

Or just dredge some more sand:shaking:

I wonder how many people go there every year and think that is the "natural" topography of that beach:rolleyes:
