^^ This exactly. If you have to build the motor to fit the vehicle it can get expensive quick, but if you can build around a complete pullout it can be relatively inexpensive. If you aren't worried about a pretty wiring harness and can read a diagram you can easily run a factory harness. You should be able to get by without a tune if you keep the factory manifolds and run the MAF.
I love TBI motors, I run a TBI 4.3 in my ranger. It is simple and cheap to fix. Doesn't require a lot of fuel pressure. They are just simple and reliable.
That said, I believe I am throwing one of the 5.3's that I have lying around in the ranger over the winter. I wouldn't mind an extra 100 hp...
