The Ripple Effect

I was laid off last week for the first time in my life from my position as the Upholstery Purchasing Mgr for Thomasville Furniture. BS in Marketing, MBA, A++ on all reviews, ect does not matter anymore only what the firm can save by letting you go. Certain industries are changing, creative destruction of capitalism at work and I doubt I will continue in the furniture industry. Just got the shit end of the stick this time. Real damn hard to tell your fiancee that you are now unemployed 2 months before the wedding. But at least I got a severence, its fishing season at the coast, hunting season soon and I still kept my pride of not kissing anyones ass to maintain employment.

God closes doors and he opens new ones is my attitude.

^^damn sucks man, good luck to ya.

Same here. My wife was freaking out at first, but now I'm keeping the house up, cleaning, cooking, working on the buggy, fishing, etc.

kept my pride for not kissing ass and doing what was right for customers. New doors are def. opening :)

Good luck with your future endeaveaurs, Jeff. :)

Thanks Rob. I know that sacrificing quality is not a long term solution as well. So when you want to go to Hatteras? Only got 3 last trip in 4 hours, wind and waves was rough over Labor Day

Hey man, look at it this way: any time she wants something done around the house, you can always tell her that you were an unemployed, lazy SOB when she married you. Why did she expect anything would change?

Me? I've been out of work since Jan. The company I was working for started with ~110 ppl last summer, laid off about 20 every two months starting last July. They're still technically in business, but the folks that are left are two weeks on, two weeks off. If they let those guys go, they'll have to shutter the place.

My wife's company is still kinda busy, so I'm building a laundry room and doing some other renovation stuff. You'll have to let me know when you go hunting. I'll have plenty of free time this fall.

I'm free anytime! :) I don't have to be at work, just gotta get to my online MBA classes so I really have no "schedule"

Yeah, wind and waves were crazy in Cherry Grove over Labor Day; couldn't catch much more than sharks, lizard fish, and a few blue crabs

I know the feeling guys, in the past seven years Ive been laid-off THREE times. Im only 24 so you can imagine that my faith in employers is nill. I have been getting buy with odd jobs and the (esc). soon I plan on working with my dad on his old sawmill that he has built in his spare time. Its been like a family hobby that my grandfather started and my dad and I were thinking its about time to do this fulltime.

It is kind of hard to read a story like that since I work for Eaton. My sector of the company (Electrical) is down too, but not nearly as bad as Automotive is. We did have some headcount reduction but it was a blip on the radar compared to the 10,000 workers they laid off in January.

I saw the article over the weekend. It really hits home since I live in Roxboro, I work for Progress, and my brother works for Eaton!
