Think this bumper is strong enough?

It's a cherocar. that bumper is likely much stronger than what it's bolted to. :flipoff2:

as what rich said about the bumper.... but the way the winch bolts on there, it looks a little weaker then id be extremely comfortable with.... youre basically placing all the holding strength in the threads of 4 7/16s bolts... it might be different if they were placed in shear in the system but id think theyd pull out with alotta force against em...

it looks like it mounts just like mine.

except my winch plate is built in..

Bolts are stronger in tension than in shear, and besides, have a look at the bolts holding your winch to the mount.. IIRC, they are grade 5 3/8", often times held in shear.

I was thinking the same, but it also depends on nut size, thread class, etc.

A cross threaded jam nut sucks.

Clean, straight class three threads have a much greater shear area and deeper engagement.

yes, i know the bolt maybe stronger in tension, depending on all its properties... but from the looks of it, to make the winch section readily removable, then the bumper it self would have to be threaded... and that is what id think would fail... now if you put high quality bolts with nuts on the backside, or even nuts welded to the inside of the bumper itd be ok....

personally if i were wanting something with a removable winch system, id probly look into a bumper with 2" reciever, and a multimount for the winch... strong, quick, and easy

Their purpose is to clamp though, not to be in shear. That's why people shear loose steering arm studs/bolts...

It would be really cool if behind the winch when u removed it there was a 2" reciever
