Im not sure if this is the proper place to post this so if its the wrong place, sorry and please move it to the correct spot.......Now, im thinking about having my ZJ painted here soon, I would like to get it painted that military green color. Anyone know of a good, reputable shop to go to?

Rattle can it. I did it on my brother and my toyota with a bright yellow and it turned out really really good. 3 coats with a rattle can and then one coat with a roller.

If you want to come up to Hickory,

you supply the paint and supplies, I will supply the paint booth and the guns

If you are interested pm me and we will work out some details

I am not a professional, but with military green?, I am assuming you want the dull finish?

In my opinion, and this is just my opinion others may argue, I would not take my vehicle to a good reputable shop and have them paint it military green

If you are looking to get it done in Charlotte then check with Body Works Plus. Brian does an excellent job. Not the cheapest but you definitely get what you pay for with a paint job......

I guess I shouldnt have put it in the words of reputable, I figured not just any body shop would paint it that color since its not a very common thing to do. But yes I am looking for the dull finish, I think its considered Olive-drab?? Ill keep your offer in mind, but I am looking to stay closer to home with this one, mainly b/c Ill be lifting my jeep up higher and running 33's and want to do as little interstate driving as possible.

Spy: could you send some pics of that rattle can job to me, ill pm you my e-mail. Im not so sure I would want to go that route but if it doesnt look half bad I may consider it.

To zubz: Thanks for the info, ill check into it. Im not looking at spending a great deal of money, I mean if Im going to wheel at all and ding up the jeep I dont want no pricy paint job on it, it would just make me sick to mess it up, you know?

Thanks for the info so far guys.

Another thing, along with the color I would also like to incorporate some numbers along the top of the fenders, you know like the old military jeeps where they had the letters USA and then some numbers, do those number signify anything? If so, what? Thanks

Maaco has done several of my and friends street cars and was pretty happy with the results for the money. I opted for the extra prep package maybe thats why they turned out fairly well.

Peach is balls cheap. They can spray, but their prep work sucks monkey sack.

DO NOT use Peach.. I went that route and the paint started to flack after 1 year.. not worth it in my opinion..

Also do not use ECono I used them once when I had my girl friends car painted as a present and it was terrible and they would not fix or buff or anything.. I ended having to wet sand and buff it to make it look OK

I am happy with my macco job. Its like anywhere else its the quality of the workmanship not just the paint. Every macco is individually owned and operated. I went to the one in Raleigh while they were very slow (2 weeks instead of 1 week estimate). The work was very good fro the 375 price tag. You can't get the material for that price let alone the time to do it.

i use to own a 85 blazer, the black cherry one with the black top that comes up on the top of the page everyonce in a while was done a peach. i thought they did a damn good job!its all about what painter they have rolling threw that month.

The military green paint is called CARC(chemical Agent Resistant coating) paint and has specific reasons it is so rough and flat. I worked painting military vehicles for the Marine Corps for 2 years. Are you just wanting green or a pattern. If you want a pattern there are Technical Manuals for the standard Camo pattern. The military paint dries really fast and really hard. The paint itself is hard to get now days unless you know someone that works painting the GOV's. Just remember paint is a cover of the work done beneath. Meaning it looks only as good as the prep work. I actually rattle canned a CRX grey primer and then wet sanded it with 800 grit and made it shine before I had MAACO paint it. They charged me 280 to spray it with single stage enamel. I had to use the single stage and have a sealer sprayed prior to since it was rattle primer. I made $2400 off the paint job when I sold it. Not sure if I answered any questions you have but I can tell you exactly how to paint with CARC paint after painting over 400 military vehicles in my first year.

Wish I could find more pics, but anyway...I've done two vehicles like this.

Wash very well, dry, scotchbrite pad in a drill (they make them that go in drills) and some tape. There is no better primer than the factory paint as long as it's prepped right. (and it's not a 90's dodge:shaking: ). Anyway the jeep wasn't painted od green but I have painted an 86 bronco OD. Neither have had any peeling and both have spare rattle cans onboard for touchups. Make sure to buy a good brand paint if doing this yourself and remember that no matter who paints it, flat finish paints like OD green are going to fade to some extent--well maybe not the CARC paint, but you can't buy that anyway.:flipoff2:
I'll try and take an "after" pic of the heep, but it still looks good 2 (or 3?) years later.

Heck, I rattlecanned my truck in my garage one weekend without washing, sanding or prepping. Granted, the original paint felt like, well, felt. It looks like a home done paint job up close, but has some good DDF. (Distance Distortion Factor.) She looks good from a distance, not so good up close.

So you are saying to wash the jeep really good, sand the factory paint and then paint it? Did you not use any primer? Where exactly do you buy paint to paint a vehicle with?

I'm buying a 97 g cherokee. it's that dark purple color (not my style). I'm getting it for the 5.2 v8. So, the purple needs to go...quick. I'm not familiar with this rattle can stuff, where can I get it?
