Looking at the E9000 from Milemarker, and serious or very common problems with it? (I searched some also)

I want to make a winch plate out of 1/4" and put some guards around it, similar to a Warn Multi mount, so I can put it on the front or rear of the truck. I have never wired a winch before, or even looked at the wiring for one. What would be involved with it? The solenoid would be on top of the winch, since it would have to be moved with the winch, is all the wiring in the little box, so all I would need to hook up is a + and - at either end?

I am also looking at the quick disconnects, but they are $$$$, wondering if there would be something similar at a local parts store (grainger or something maybe).

I know Warn's are better, but I don't have $600-700 to spend on a winch, I can get the Milemarker for $450 shipped with a receiver shackle from Winchdepot.com.

I also found 3 new E9000's on ebay in Florida, $389.50 each and $40 shipping, but if you buy all 3 he will sell them for $1100 and free shipping, comes out to $366 each shipped, so does anybody want a winch?

Yes with the MM all the wires except for the power( +and-)
I can get the red disconnects for you thru Ready Welder. $12 each, plus shipping. Let me know if I can help.

the only thing I don't like about them (aside from the "made in China" or "reboxed Harbor Freight" arguments) is that the 9K winch is a permanent magnet motor, as is all of their electric winches except for the 12K...

Warn uses series wound motors even in the 8K winches...I just check 4WP website, and they have the M8000 for $550...

you might also look at T-Max or Ramsey for a more "budget" winch...

Buy a used warn winch. That way you are getting a good product at a decent price. I picked up a used 8274 for a fraction of the price of it new. It works great!

if you are going to get the MM 9k just get the harbor freight one as they are the same winch and a lot cheaper and you can also purchase a 3 year warranty for a few bucks if you are worried about it breaking...

I do believe I'd rather have a cheap, slow winch that'd get me out of or over whatever it was, than not have ANY winch at all. And having to make everyone wait while someone else had to hook me up to THEIRS.

And what I'D like to get is one that mounts in a 2" hitch, so I could put it on front or back depending on where I needed it.

(Of course, then I'd also need a 2" hitch on the front...)

Mike,

Local guy has a 8274 for sale here, he's asking $600. If your interested I can ask him what the bottom $$ is. Shipping is of course semi free:D I'll haul, you fab!

Cheers

X2

I bought a used 8274 for $400 and it works fine plus parts are easily available. A buddy has one of the Harbor Freight 8000 units. It needs new brushes for the motor, and HF doesn't sell them. He has to beat on it to work sometimes, and it is slow as christmas.

I've run the Harbor Freight (only had so much $$ to spend on all the "stuff" I wanted to do) - never had a problem with it - just kind of slowwwwww. A month or so ago I bought a brand new Warn M8000 with the roller fairlead from Clemson and it was $550 shipped to my door. Just checked their site, and it's a lot higher now... Just search and keep your eye out.

I just got the Tabor 9K (which is made by Warn) from PORC a month or so ago. Seems to be a pretty sturdy unit. I haven't gotten a chance to really use it yet, other than rewinding the cable under load.

Summit sells the T-max with a private label for 459 shipped to your door. I did a post on Pirate and the EW 9000 is faster than the M8000 and has a larger motor. I have all the info if you need it and they do have a multi mount available. And there is questions about the milemarker on Pirate also. Milemarker=harborfreight&chicago electric. 1.6HP motor or 6.6 T-max.

Hutch.

PS go to yahoo and put this in the engine T-max/summit winches

Hey Mike.
FWIW, I was leaning toward the hitch mount option but as I thought about it more and asked around I changed my mind and decided a front mount would be better. If I want to pull somebody behind me and I can't turn around (school bus perhaps?) I can use a snatch block.

(I have no connection to the seller)

You may want to try Northern Tool for the Ramsey line of winches..they have more OR stuff there everytime I get around to shopping there......GL, Mike

x2 on the warn m8000 clemson has good $$ and no tax being in SC.

my next choice would probably be the Summit, then a REp8000 slow or not they are farily reliable. And Trebissky is right, rather someone have a slow ass winch then non at all....

multi-mount

If you have the option, go with the multi-mount. Its sweet. Not only is it convenient in the woods, but you can remove the winch easy for under hood work or maint- (makes for easy motor pulling). I also take mine off and put it on the tractor. Just makes it more versatile.

opinion on the Ramey REP8000 after 10 years of abuse. strong, reliable, but SLOW. Now have an 8274- just got tired of running over cable, and have more fundage.:D
