I have herd that to get a little more horsepower out of my 1997 tj with the 2.5 4cycl I should put on a 6cycl throttle body and if this is true what year if it matters what year 6cycl throttle body do I need and is it a direct connect. And is there any adapters need or anything else

yep its true i think most 4.0 throttle bodys are the same but u first need to get air out so also look into a headder and good muffler to go along with the throttle body. another good one for the 4cyls. is an electric fan the eng.fan really drags them down and sucks gas u do all that and u will be much happy.

I've done the 4.0L TB on my 2.5. I "think" I got a little more midrange power. All I have is a seat of the pants dyno, but it says it helped a little. Any 4.0 TB will work, but IIRC, you have to grind a little nub off of the 4.0 TB to get it to sit well on the 2.5 intake. Other than that, it was plug and play.

Snake Oil! It might give you .42 more HP, trust me. I have tried everything, or some variation there of, under the sun from TB to air tube to electric fan to inertia weighting and more. The ONLY thing that is going to help seat of the pants is lower gearing!

x2. You can do all the little mods in the world for a total of 10 horsepower, but its not going to make you as happy as lower gearing.

I would challenge anyone, not to dis blktaco, to get 10 more dyno'd HP from the 2.5L Jeep motor by any means short of a turbo/super charger. Seriously, I don't think a TB, TB spacer, electric fan, header, high flow air tube, high flow exhaust, high flow cat, fuel atomizer, hood scoop and flame decals would dyno at 10 more HP!

I agree, that was actually the point I was trying to make. he could spend over a grand trying to get more power and if he got 10hp doing all the mods available for a 2.5 he would be accomplishing something. Even still, it wouldn't give the difference that lower gears would.

well thank you for all the info and tips you guys saved me some time and instead of just regearing i think im going to swap axles all to togather and then reargear. thank you

I would agree you probably wont help top HP...but you could tweak the curve a bit and get 10hp at some point on the power band pretty easily.

***dont forget you nly feel top hp at a given rpm but each acceleration works through a range of rpms.

This is what I was goping for when I said I noticed more midrange power. I'm under no illusion that doing a 4.0L TB gives you any more total HP. BTW, I agree with all on having correct gears. I was under the impression the OP was already properly geared.
