I am sure this has been covered multiple times, nevertheless the search function failed me or I just failed at using it properly.
As ridiculous as it may sound I converted my Dana 30 in my YJ to 1 ton GM tie rods and flipped the tie rods to the top side of the steering arm. This obviously means that my stock 15x7 with 5.5" of backspacing wheels will not fit. As I am planning on new wheels and tires anyway this is not a problem. The question is this. How little backspacing do I need to clear if I stick with a 15" wheel? By placing a straight edge on the mounting face of the rotor and measuring to the tie rod it seems that 3.5" would easily miss the tie tod. But, since the majority of the cheap easy to find wheels are 4" backspacing or more, I am curious if anyone else is running this setup and if they are what wheels they are running. I was hoping to avoid wheel spacers. I am not opposed to going up to a larger wheel if I have to but 15s are cheap and so am I. Any knowledge from past experience would be appreciated. Thanks guys.
