Ok I am going to post a pic that I don't have permission to use

Guys It is time we fix this . I will chip in 100 towards the culvert being replaced . I would hate to lose this area due to this . I have a guy that might be able to work some magic so the state knows the off road community raised the funds to fix this. Anyone else ready to help out ( mods feel free to move if needed)

Not to be a nay sayers but that sort of wash out is on the level of URE and they can barely keep it maintained.

The recent rains have been atrocious. Mother Nature might win this battle. Is it worth bringing this to the states attention if all they may do is close it off forever once they do a cost analysis?

They've "fixed" the road numerous times over the years. Unfortunately, unlike a trail system this road is gets zero maintenance until you get what you've got here. Then, just like Tellico, it's easier for the government to threaten to shut it down then actually maintain it because "quarterly maintenance takes too much time"

Side note: I never will forget Bill Champion saying that to me in 2008. Once every three months they had to dig out silt traps up there and he thought this was excessive :kaioken:

You don't need the state government to fix it, just go fix it ourselves. Reliance on the government is the only reason they have the power now to shutdown our offroad areas.

I sold my dump truck so I won't be able to help with that. However, there is a rock yard on the TN side not too far in. The only other one is over in Waynesville that I'm aware of. A man with a good size dump trailer could be useful as well. No promises but I know a guy that has property up there that owns some equipment. He may be willing to help out. He's a fellow wheeler and a good guy all around. If you want to get up with him just shoot me a message and I'll put you in touch.

I think I am missing the point of this thread, but wouldnt it be way cheaper to post a sign at the start of the "trail" that states "no ford trucks" , than to fix the ruts?
So a guy went out fourwheeling and accidentally got stuck?

Nope.
I made it after a couple tries. ;)
Some kids in an H2 said they spent an hour trying to get through there before we came through.
I believe the branch they left in one of the ruts helped me out.

This was toward the end, so as far as gravel delivery, come in from the top. ...jus' sayin.

Last time i talked to a land owner up there. the forest service is trying to get approval to log some of this area. IF that happens the interstate cut in past the guard rail would be eliminated and a new road would be pushed in from the harmon den exit. the road is already about 1/2 there. BUT if this happens they will fix the road, and gate it at both ends. then only land owners would have access to the road.
I think the biggest problem is the number of vehicles that are using it and most don't know how to drive on the trial or are trying to make the trail(road) worse.

on a nice weekend i bet that road see 500+ vehicles on it.

i know when me and @McCracken turkey hunted up there last spring we probably saw 20+ just moving spots
