Earthlink/Timewarner. What are you pinging. For those that don't know what that is.

www.speedtest.net.

We're thinking about switching from 6 meg DSL(typicaly below 3 meg) to cable. Time Warner has the 5x1.5 for like 79.00 with one phone line. I can do Earthlink for about 45.00 w/ 7 meg. Of course, those are "up to" numbers.

Just wanting to see whats actualy happening.

Thanks

Im on roadrunner (TW-Fayetteville) and to Greensboro I got:

6.71 mb/s download
0.36 mb/s upload
91 ms ping

I dont know which version of rr I got though.

here at work on a "commercial account". im pretty sure my home connection is faster than here. it's not supposed to be. i'l check this afternoon.

Time warner is going to be adding bandwidth caps. I'm dropping them and going DSL as soon as these caps come to Raleigh. An up/download reading from my house wouldn't do squat for you in Statesville. Anyone in Greensboro needs to get off Time Warner and get DSL, because the caps are headed there soon.

PS. I can surpass the 5Gb monthly cap in a week using the VPN, streaming video, or downloading Linux.

I am paying for 6meg down but my actual download speed is about 500kbs. With DSL, speed is terrible when you live out in the middle of nowhere
