If you have been following up on the threads in the "Friends of Uwharrie" section you probably know I purchased a strobe kit for my truck. Primary use being for safety/awareness on the trails during the workdays.

I hooked up the kit for testing, and everything is in working order. They are BRIGHT, which will be perfect for on the trails during the daylight.

Now the kit itself is fairly straight forward, but I have little experience running wires through a vehicle. Any tips suggestions from anyone that would make my job go a bit easier?

Here is my ghetto wiring diagram that I made up:

Like I said most of the kit is simple plug n' play, and even then where you have to use connectors/wire strippers/etc its pretty basic. The hard part is I have to run lines from all 4 corners of the truck back to the controller, and run a line to the battery. I would consider cheating and use the fuse panel inside the truck, but if I am going to have to run wires through the firewall to the front strobes anyway I might as well wire it the right way to the battery.

So any thoughts?

How far is Weddington from High Point? I have a full shop and use to do car Stereo for a living. If you brought it to the shop, when it left you'd be hard pressed to see any wiring at all. Let's just say it could be my part to help for the days I haven't been at URE due to other obilgation.....

first decide where you want to mount your control panel. mount it. find access thru the fire wall, usually able to find a rubber gromet type thing and pull it out. if not make one as high up as possible, with the carpet pulled back. wrap the wire with tape or slide on a rubber hose and secure it where it would rub any surface that would expose the wire. zip tie the wires in place as you route them to their location. its very simple if you take the time to do it carefully and right.

or, you could take up Snappys offer, which is very nice of him and hard to resist considering the heat. if your not real sure on what your doing, and dont want to see wires running wild, id let him do his good deed for the day!
mighty nice of you Snappy, we need more people like you!

@ Snappy: I am just south of Charlotte, so you are about 1hr 45 min away. That isn't extremely far, Uwharrie is an 1hr 20 min.

@cfd_2214: I am putting the kit in a 2 door Dodge Raider/Mitsubishi Montero:

Again the only hard part is running the wire through the truck, and mounting the controller. The turn signal housings and tail light housing as easy to access/modify even. The last thing I want to do is pull up carpet and pop out interior panels and mess something up. :shaking::shaking:

(Just saw 77"s reply, thanks for the tips)

Offer stands..... Mount the bulbs and come hang out for an afternoon and let me help you out. The interior doesn't scare me at all those things are super simple to take apart and put back together and I have rolls of loom(split and continous) to do the job right....

what shop did you work at snappy?

Its an automovite shop I park my truck at. I still have all my wiring stuff from circuitcity and the fact I've wired 4 complete buggies from stratch now. When ciruit shut down, we all loaded up on supplies...

The high voltage output wires are normally shielded, but running them outside the truck is a good idea to keep them away from the car wires that could be sensitive to interference. I typically ran them out a grommet in the floor, then through flexible conduit along the frame rails. (not split-loom, but electrical conduit), sealing the ends with a bit of silicone.

Eli if you are going to be back in HP/Gboro area I need to get you the gloves and cooler for the 17th. I will be out of town. PM me if you are.

Project complete. The only thing left is to mount the bulbs.....

Yes a HUGE thanks to Snappy for doing all the wiring. He went above and beyond what was originally planned. I would say at the very least it was an extremely professional set up. I owe him big time. Especially after I got lost and was only god knows how late.

I may end up having to go back out that way Thursday to pick up a sign. It all depends on how everyone's schedule works out. I know TSM_88YJ and gus203 live out in that area. I will have to talk to them and see if maybe one of them can pick them up etc. I am not volunteering anyone, but I will see what they say.
