TIRE BALANCE??

ive done them both ways, pad and bead . both work if done correctly.
the pads are heated on the inner side of the tire .
the beads are inside the tire and dont balance until moving. the tires sling the beads around and they just go in place where the balance is needed.
something to that effect. im sure someone else will explain it better.

so the beads dont work well at low speeds? im guessin the beads are cheaper?
are your tires radial or bias ? because bias ply dont ride good until they get heat in them and if they sit around for a few days, they really ride like crap until heated up.
let the other guys chime in and then you can make your own decision. as of right now , none of mine are balanced , but i dont drive it much at all.

#1 42s aint gonna ride great, period. You can spend a fortune and get OK results, but thats all you have OK. A great 42 will ride like a badly off balanced 31, JUST MY OPINION, but it is an experienced one.

#2 If you are going to trail ride at all, pad balancing is a waste. You WILL gash and chunk your tires on the trail and then your fixed balance is no longer right. Dynamic or adaptive balancing is the best bet for trail used vehicles. Again just my opinion.

#3 If you accept point #2 above, I think there are 2 real choices. Water/AF combo or Copper BBs. Both will work as good or better than equal or any of the other commercial products, and actually have enough mass to make a difference unlike airsoft pellets and numerous other home brews.

guy that comes into work fills his 44's with small ball bearings and golf balls. Says it rids good at anything over 15mph

I vote golf balls! No...really. I had 6 per tire in my 38" TSLs and they did a good job. You can't hear them unless you have the doors off and are listening for it when you stop. You won't be able to hear anything anyway with a 42" tire on the street. Also, it is better to have too many than not enough. I would run at least 8 of them in a 42" swamper.

i vote bb's

put some unbalanced tires on my bronco couldn't go over 30. then i put the BB's just in the front and could go as fast as i wanted.
42's would be like 12oz per tire. sounds like alot but worth it.

(even better to get air soft BB's, they won't react with water vapor)

i used bb's in my 44's and could run over 80mph without any problems. dont ask me how i know.

I ran it for 2 years in my TSLs and looked good as new when I changed em....didnt smell good as new, but looked it.

I was told the whole reason to mix AF with the water was rust prevention.

YMMV

Apparently, some tire shops are now carrying a product(s) that are a powder/bb shaped material that work excellent for balancing.

For $30, I may be dropping by and having them take my pads out and put that stuff in. Apparently on 37" Boggers it worked great...but that's what I was told.

when yall say bb's are they plastic or metal?:driver:

metal copper is best in case of moisture no rust

If its "equal" or an equivalent just pass, it works fine, but will clump bad with moisture introduction and work less, and unless you have a drier on our air tank and every air tank you intend to fill your tires with

I'll inquire. I didn't get to talk too long when I stopped by the other day.

I'm using the anti/water mix. Only thing is when you hit a pot hole or bump in a curve it shakes a while then settles out, running this in 49 Iroks on 14" wide wheels. Still have a shake at 35 mph - smooth above and below it.

31"-34"- 3 baseballs
35-37"- 5 softballs
38"-44" 3 golfballs and 6 tennisballs
Above 44"- gallon of and antifreeze and 5000 bb's

Just my Opinion

I use Airsoft BBs in my 34" LTBs they work pretty well. They work best over 20 MPH and when the tires are warmed up. Airsoft are plastic so you don't have to worry about them rusting.
I used this chart to figure out how much to put in each tire.
http://www.innovativebalancing.com/BigTirechart.htm

2X

16oz in each of my 38's
12oz when I was on 35's

15-55/60mph is easy and smooth.

what about using lead bird shot? we've got a bunch of bags of it for reloading shotgun shells. lead wont rust, and they are heavier than bb's so it would take less individual shot and i think they will fit through the valve stem with the core out. so what do ya'll think?
