I purchased a set of 5 Mickey Thomson MTZ from another board member. They had excellent tread left on them I would say 4 had 90% and the fifth was brand new so I got an excellent deal for 700.00 with the wheels.
But what I am finding out is these are a real soft compound and really don't hold up well to rock crawling. I notice when I purchased them that they had a lot of rock rash and some chunking of rubber. But I assumed that was because the person before did a lot more extreme stuff then I plan to do.
One tire had a small repaired side wall puncture so I decided to make it the spare and run the brand new tire on my rear. Mind you have an open front and just a limited slip rear. But in just 5-6 trips this year to URE I have ripped huge 1.5 to 2 inch chunks out of the brand new tire.
I guess what I am asking is the something I am doing with air pressure that is causing this? I usually run 8-9 psi and these tires really bite I climb places with an open 4 cylinder TJ that even surprise me. But I hate to keep ruining these tires I would bet between the previous owner and my self there is less then 8-9000 miles on them but they are looking seriously worn from the chunking.
