This is my second jeep, I have a bit of experence, however I am new to the area and am looking for some good experence for tires in URE. However, I still need it to be a DD. What are the trails mostly made up of? Are AT or MT better? How bad do the side walls get torn up from rocks?

Josh

I've gone through ever trail in URE with BFG/AT's. When it gets muddy they like to turn into drag slicks. I ride on MT/R's now. They clean better than the AT's for sure, but still not as good as I'd like. I think I'll try a set of BFG or ProComp MT's next.

they don't clean as good as you like because the MT/R is more of an all terrain...not a mud terrain... ;)

they excel on the rocks...not in the mud, especially in that nasty red clay crap around here...

Thornbirds, baby!!! :huggy:

No really.. BFG MT's are a decent all-around tire. MT/R's are a little "nicer" on road, but do clog up more quickly unless you spin 'em to keep 'em cleaned out, which is hard on parts.

This is from observation of other rigs only, and from riding on-road with a couple of MT & MT/R shod trucks.

MT/R = Mud Terrain Reject.. :flipoff2:

You don't have to spend a lot of money to have a good tire for URE. I ran a set of Wild Country RVT Mud Terrains in The 32" variety and did everything except Kodak itself. they cleaned well in the mud, never let me down, road fine on the road as my DD. and they weren't near as expensive as Swampers, BF's, or Goodyears.

that's not to say those aren't good tires, just that you don't have to spend a butt load of money. After saying all that, I've just moved onto Swampers though.. :D

Thanks for the replys,

I think I will be going with the BFG M/T, now only to find a free pair on the side of the road.

Swampers clog in the glue/mud in URE, any round tire will work in the dry, in the wet good luck in getting traction.

Must be an "XJ thang"? ("Dang, I could've had a V8!"?)

Mine might load up a bit, but clean right out after a blip of the 5.0...

My POS 4.0 will sling the mud in a big loop and onto the hood, still no traction on the clay below 40mph wheel speed.

I run Swamper TSl Radials. THey work fine at URE.

My S-15 Jimmy came with 4 x 31" Uniroyal M/T's (and a standard 235/75 R15 spare). I get some vibration over 60 on highways, otherwise they seem OK on roads. Will they do for URE?

Yes, if it's muddy you will have to try harder, but they will work fine.
