Titling an aftermarket, unmarked Bronco Frame

I recently came into possession of a huge pile of early bronco stuff. Amongst the pile is a complete, aftermarket frame void of all markings - no VIN or manufacturer codes.

Has anyone ever requested a VIN and title issued by the NC DMV for a complete ground-up, custom build?

My goal is to use this frame to build a second street legal truck using a bronco body and drivetrain. Im ok with this not being titled as an early bronco as it will stay with me/my family indefinitely.

Thanks for any advice you can offer!

As Jody said, if you purchase a "parts vehicle" with a title and VIN, you can use that.

Or, you can go through the process to register it as a "Custom" or "Replica" vehicle in NC. I would use Replica. Probly will require a bond and inspection. I would call the DMV and ask them about the process and required forms. Here is a little info, but their site is lacking.

Wasn't the EB vin on the glove box door?

When my dad bought a 66 c-10 out of Tennessee we had to have it inspected with pictures before a title would be tranfered. The guy that inspected it pretty much said NC is a frame state and that’s what everything goes off of. So if I were you I would stamp the vin into the frame and just go with that.

The thing is if you were able to get a glove box vin and a title, the frame vin would never matter... just tag it and drive it.

Otherwise you'll have to build the thing into a complete vehicle, document it and get the dmv inspector to come stamp the frame, tell you how much the bond needs ron be and give you a vin.

This topic gets brought up on the bronco forums all the time since the vins on these guys were really funky. Technically EB's vin is only on the frame. The vin on a glove box is a warranty tag that is often misused as an official vin. Vin are not suppose to be removable and the glove box door comes right off. Because of this some states have the warranty tag as a vin in there systems. NC inspectors generally look for both and the door jam tag on the 69-77 models, so it can be a fun on the 66-68 models that just have the 2 tags. Also technically all you need is a title and frame with vin, a door tag and warranty tag are can be replicated legally.
