I have replaced this sensor 3 times on my 97' 4.0 in the past few months, but it still throws a code saying its the TPS. I read online that it could also be the clockspring going bad but will throw the code for the TPS. The Jeep starts to cut out and sputter when the code is thrown. Anyone ever had this trouble?

TPS (Throttle Positition Sensor), but it has been replaced 3 times in the past 3 months. I think something else is wrong and it is throwing the TPS code instead, heard it maybe the clockspring? Don't really know what that is, just read about it on another forum.

Would a crack in the exhaust manifold cause this code to be thrown in any way? Plan to get the code today, I never went back to get it before cause the engine light went off and all was fine, but then it came back on yesterday with the same symptoms as before. Some research on the internet for similar problems, found that the clockspring in the steering column can cause the TPS code to be thrown if the clocksrping gets moisture in it. Has anyone heard of this? Thanks for the help.

Are they erasing the code afterwards? I know their brilliant there but itcouldnt hurt to ask.

Ive had 2 previously from there for my 97 4Liter Cherokee.

This 3rd and hopefully last time I brought one from advance to see if its a brand issue.

Advance stocks a GP THORERSON which is a differnent brand from what ive gotten from autozone in the past.
I havent had time to put it on yet, but hopefully it will fix it for good.

Are there signs visable that make you think it needs replacing? Or is it just cause of the light.

If no symptoms are there id unhook the battery for a minute to reset the codes and then go from there and see if it comes back on.

You probably need a new clockspring, a shorted or open clock spring will give you a code that read TPS volts too high or TPS does not agree with MAP. I work for a Jeep dealer and see that code often, just cannot remember the "P" code off the top of my head.
