HVAC selector switch no longer works. If you’ve had to replace yours, where did you get it?

I would pull it apart and make sure that you can't repair it. I have had to fix them in the past and sometimes it is something simple.

I've looked at it. I believe the internals of the switch are plastic and have broken apart, so when I turn the dial, it does not turn the part that goes to all the vacuum lines. Were you able to get the switch itself opened up?

Are you sure the dial itself isn't broken? I seem to run into that about once a year with '00. The plastic cracks and allows the dial to turn without moving the switch. Last time I picked up three of them from jeepsareus.com. The switch itself can be purchased individually from the dealer or a junkyard if you are lucky. From the dealer in Winston it was $18 a couple years ago.

The dial is not broken. I did have a problem last year with the electrical connector on that switch, it was indeed burned. I built my own pigtail and solved that problem. The problem now is with the vacuum portion of the switch. The vacuum portion is what changes dampers to align your system to either blow out at the floor, or at A/C vents, or the defroster, etc.

I have this same problem! And I just got my 00 TJ. The previous owner had the selector power routed through a toggle switch. So i could not adjust the setting of the blower but could aim it and change temp. When i bought the Jeep i didnt know the selector was broken, so when i changed the dial settings, it crapped out on me. Is there a way i can manually adjust the blower? Sounds like i need to replace the head unit right?

Are you talking about the fan speed switch or the switch on the far right that chooses which vents it blows out of? If the blower is not working (which I have had that problem too), first pull the whole control unit out and look at the wiring. The one on the far right has an electrical connector and a vacuum connector. My electrical connector had melted! That connector is what gives power to the relay that gives power to the blower motor. I had to cut and scrape all that melted plastic off and make my own connector, but it works.

My problem now is that the vacuum portion of the switch is broken, so my dampers are stuck in the position that it only blows out at the a/c vents. Made it a pain this winter when I needed defrost!

Burnt Green Wire

So looks like the green wire was burnt out on my unit. Everything else looked fine and wasnt melted. Still trying to figure out how to do the relay install to keep the amps down.

run a relay for each fan setting and run a seperate single power supply thru your fan speed switch(sw) to each relay like in the JP article. that will keep the amps down in the selector sw. and speed control sw.
I used female wire connectors ith heat shrink to keep the wires from shorting out. It's my understanding that the blower motor is getting older and pulling more amps because it's not as efficent. I'm not an electrican. so if anyone knows a better way please feel free to correct me........
