tj axle swap

Yes, but the "85 XJ D30 will have the vacuum actuator and 2 piece shaft on the passy side. If you have a good shaft from that side, you're a seal and a little work away from a good upgrade. WHat year TJ? I only ask because there was a change in the offset of the unitbearing in 2000 or 2002, I can't remember which. It won't matter for an all out swap, but if you have a '99 or earlier TJ, everything can be used as spares.

There was also a change from bolt on caliper brackets to cast on caliper brackets on the XJ D30 fronts. I don't know the exact year. The 84 D30 I bought for a replacment in my 89 had bolt on caliper brackets where my 89 had one piece knuckles. I believe there was also a unit bearing change in the early years as well because to use the 84 axle I had to swap on everything from the knuckles out on my 89. amajeepman could probably shed some light on this as he is the local parts store guru.

i have a 97 tj. do you know if grand cherokees and cherokees alike all have the same set up for dana 30's-- to bolt up. also can i put my low pinion dana 30 4:10 gears in a hp d30?

Did you break the whole axle housing? Why not just swap shafts? Your gears wont work.

Grand cherokees will work. Thats the idea, you will go from a LP to a HP if you do the grand swap. Gears wont work.

01 Grand Cherokee(WJ) housing will not fit in a TJ. The 93-98 Grand Cherokee(ZJ) will be a direct bolt in as they are both LP Dana 30's. The XJ housing will all be HP Dana 30's untill 1999. The unit bearing changes happened in 86, 91, 99 all have different hub assemblies. The TJ's had the hub off set change in 99 or 00. 95 and later XJ's have the stronger 760-x u-joints just like your TJ has so you would have a spare set if they are fine from your TJ.

does anyone know if there are differences in a 07 JK d30 and the tj version? will it bolt up?
Yes there are differences.
Different axle, different bolt pattern for rims, mounts are different, and different width.
The only thing the same is the name.
:D

Find an axle from a TJ or XJ.

The only direct bolt in will be a XJ, TJ, ZJ housing the XJ Dana 30 is the better choice due to being a HP.
